If you’re on social media for any significant length of time, I’m sure you’re well aware that matte lipsticks are having a moment right now. The problem is, so many of them are just so damn drying, especially the brands that have edgy “odd” colors. The best I’ve found thus far are the liquid lipsticks from Jeffree Star, but even those are quite drying. What’s a gal to do…???
Smashbox to the rescue! OMG. I so love everything about this lipstick! I’ve been wanting to try the Smashbox lipsticks, and I got one in a set from Sephora, but it was hot pink- so NOT my color. When they finally released the new colors, including a grey I was really curious about, I was really tempted to place an order. When I saw the lipstick in person at Ulta, I gave in to temptation. I have no regrets!
Smashbox Be Legendary Matte Lipstick is purported to have intense and lasting pigments that stay true-to-color, even in photographs and sunlight. The vitamin-enriched formula does not settle unevenly on lips or dry them out. I would have to agree- that’s pretty accurate.
Ever since I started blogging, bold, daring colors are something I’m not afraid of anymore. While I won’t wear a lot of them on a daily basis, they have their place. Smashbox’s Punked, a deep grey, is actually one that I have worn just on a regular day- it’s odd, but it’s not as “in your face” as bright blue or black. With the rest of my makeup neutral and subdued, I was able to pull of this shade in public, without getting any overt stares! (What people did or said behind my back, I don’t care…lol 😉 )

I’ve worn this lipstick several times now, and I’m absolutely in love with it! The formula is more of a velvet matte, which is perfect. It’s not as long-wearing as those super matte liquid formulas, but I’m okay with that since it’s not nearly as drying. At the end of the day, I just apply some lip balm and I’m good to go, no more flakes or dryness than usual.
