September 2015 Birchbox

Birchbox, like other subscription boxes, can tend to be hit or miss.  Although you fill out a survey, and they claim each box is tailored to each subscriber, I don’t know how true that is.  I have received products that were WAY off, in regards to shade, as well as type of product.  For example, I have received clarifying shampoo, when I have colored hair.  I have received very light colored BB cream, when my skin is medium to dark, depending on the time of year.  So, I am happy to say that this month’s box was, for the most part, a “hit.”

I received the following items:

Amika The Shield Style Extending Spray, 0.75 oz.  (Full size retails for $24).  At first, I was confused about this product, not knowing what it was until I did a search.  Usually, “style extending” refers to a hairspray with old, or a dry shampoo.  This is a heat protection spray that you spray onto your hair prior to blow drying or flat ironing.  The idea is that it will also extend your hairstyle.  Since I use a flat iron a couple times a week, I was happy to get this.

Remarkable People Etat Libre d’Orange Eau de Parfum, 0.05 oz. sample vial.  (Full size retails for $85-$149).  I am VERY picky with fragrances, so I usually don’t like receiving them in a subscription box.  I was pleasantly surprised with this one and am actually considering getting the full size.  It has notes of fruit, spice, florals, and champagne.  I’m not big on fruity fragrances, but the spiciness offsets the fruit very well.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Perfect Brow Pencil, 0.013 oz. (Full size retails for $23).  I already use several Anastasia products, so I was excited about this.  Although this is not new to me, it’s great to be able to have this so I can toss it into my travel case.

100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream, 0.30 oz. (Full size retails for $25).  Traditionally, I have not used eye creams.  However, when I started using tretinoin, my eyes became a bit crepey.  Although this is only temporary, a good eye cream helps reduce this effect.  I love my 100% Pure body cream, and even bought two backups, so I’m anxious to try this eye cream!

Tocca Giulietta Nourishing Body Scrub, 1 oz. (Full size retails for $32).  This is the “miss” item in the box.  I love Tocca products, but I don’t generally use perfumed body washes unless I am going to be wearing the matching fragrance.  However, I will try it to see if I like the quality and to evaluate the effectiveness.

Overall, I was pleased with this month’s box.  Do you have a Birchbox subscription?  What products have you received?  Scroll down to comment below!
