Pixi Glow Getters 1

It’s Friday again!  I’ve actually been looking forward to this weekend- hopefully we can finally have a weekend without having to worry about car stuff.  Jerry’s been obsessed with his car lately, and it’s getting really old.  So, it’ll be nice to finally have some “non-car time.”  Lol! 😉

The good news is that I got another surprise in the mail from Pixi Beauty a couple weeks ago, and I’m super excited to tell you guys all about it!  They generously sent me their “Glycolic Glow-Getters,” including the Glow Mud Cleanser, Glow Tonic To-Go, and Overnight Glow Serum.  Woo-hoo!  I can see the glow already!

If you’ve been reading our posts, you know glycolic acid is one of my fave skincare ingredients.  It’s proven to work, and readily available in a plethora of products.  I used to use Vivite, a brand sold in doctors’ offices.  But, my skin is more sensitive now from using tretinoin, and the percentage of glycolic acid in those products became too high. Needless to say, Pixi’s lower percentage really intrigued me.

Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser

The brand describes the Glow Mud Cleanser as a deep pore cleansing mud with soothing botanicals and 5% glycolic acid.  It’s formulated to be effective at cleansing, but gentle enough for all skin types.  The deep pore cleansing leaves skin glowing, and gentle exfoliation revitalizes. The mud provides deep cleaning, while the glycolic acid enhances the complexion (Pixi-Sjovik, 2017).

I’m obsessed with cleansers- they’re probably my most hoarded skincare product.  Most people hoard serums or moisturizers, you know, the stuff that’s actually left on the skin.  It’s even recommended by industry professionals that you invest the most in these, and the least in your cleanser since it’s rinsed off.

BUT, my skin is so “weird” that I can’t use just any cleanser.  I have oily/combination skin, and as a teenager, I had acne.  Later on, my skin stayed oily, but without the acne, I could subject it to almost anything, and no irritation would occur.  Now that my skin’s more sensitive, though, it’s a delicate balance to tread.  There are so many formulas that will get my skin clean, but strip it of moisture.  If it doesn’t strip my skin, then it doesn’t get it clean, either.  Hence my cleanser-hoarding…lol!

I’m very pleased with the Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser.  First off, it’s housed in a convenient squeeze tube with a flip cap, so it’s easy to use one-handed or in the shower.  It reminds me of my Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip cleanser in that it contains clay to help detoxify, but the Pixi cleanser is a bit thicker- and dare I say, a bit more luxurious- at less than half the price.

As with all my other cleansers, I do need to double cleanse on days that I’m wearing heavy makeup.  But, I can massage around the Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser, rinse off, and my skin is super clean, without being stripped dry.  The aloe leaf juice along with hyaluronic acid, oils and botanicals not only soothe, but provide enough moisture that even with the clay and glycolic acid, my skin is left hydrated.

Pixi Glow Tonic To-Go

Chances are, you’ve probably heard of Pixi’s cult-fave Glow Tonic– perhaps the most-loved toner of beauty editors and bloggers everywhere.  So, I’m extra excited to get these!  Why?  Because I’ve never tried Glow Tonic.  Say wha…..??!!??  That’s correct.  I’ve never.  Tried.  Pixi.  Glow Tonic.  I’m hanging my head down in shame at this very moment.

Pixi Glow Tonic To Go 1

First off, despite having plenty of toners and similar products on-hand, this is a cult status fave.  So, I’ve always wanted to try it.  Unfortunately, all the Target stores near us are always sold out of a good bit of Pixi products.  We find out they’ve restocked, then by the time we get there (closest one is an hour away), all out again.  (Thankfully, we can now order online directly from Pixi, with a low minimum for free shipping!)

So, anywho, Glow Tonic To-Go is the same formula as the regular Glow-Tonic, but the jar contains pre-soaked pads, making it super convenient for travel.  The alcohol-free formula contains 5% glycolic acid to help tone, hydrate, brighten and gently exfoliate (Pixi-Sjovik, 2017).

Pixi Glow Tonic To Go 2

Again, the previous glycolic products I was using were too strong, with a minimum of 10% in each product.  This caused far too much irritation on my tretinoin-treated skin.  But, these fabulous Glow Tonic To-Go pads balance my skin and leave me glowing, without getting irritated.  Yessss!!!

Pixi Overnight Glow Serum

This is a concentrated formula with 10% glycolic acid and arginine, along with cucumber and aloe to help calm the skin, while Vitamins A, C and E provide nourishment.  It’s purported to help reduce the appearance of sun spots and fine lines (Pixi-Sjovik, 2017).

Pixi Overnight Glow Serum is housed in an opaque glass bottle with a dropper for convenient dispensing.  You can also put the regular cap back on for travel.

Some people with oily skin (like me) often fear night time treatments, as they can tend to be too heavy.  No worries, though, with this serum- it’s perfect for all skin types.  It’s kind of a thin gel texture, not at all greasy, spreads easily, and absorbs readily.

I was a bit worried about the 10% concentration, but since this was the lowest percentage I used previously, I went ahead and gave it a go.  As it turns out, I had no problems!  However, I did make sure to wait at least an hour between using the serum and my tretinoin.  I haven’t tried applying them at the same time, and I wouldn’t recommend it.  But spacing them apart worked perfect, and I even noticed that I had less flaking (from the tretinoin) than I did before using the Overnight Glow Serum.  Win!

I’m super-pleased to have had the opportunity to try these Glow Getters from Pixi.  I found the formulations to be stellar, with high-quality ingredients.  Despite a lower percentage of glycolic acid than the products I previously used, I get the same results.  Since all three products contain this superstar ingredient, when used together, they allow for superb results without added irritation.

Now, for the icing on the cake- these products are incredibly reasonably priced.  Seriously.  The serum retails for $24, and the cleanser and toning pads are $18 each.  These prices, combined with the fact that a little bit goes a long way, you can get your glow on without applying for a loan!
