Hey everyone! Happy Sunday!
I’ve been slacking lately on the blog posts. Busy doing several videos, having dental work and back pain, and getting injections. Arrgghh! But, there was a light amidst all the crap- Elemis sent me their new Superfood line!
If you saw our review on the Elemis Superfood Facial Oil (read it here), you already know it’s pretty fab. But now, they’ve created a whole Superfood collection. This vegan-friendly, nutrient-dense line consists of Facial Wash, Day Cream, and Night Cream, along with the Facial Oil getting a packaging “makeover.” This is one of the most lux “green” lines I’ve seen and experienced!
Superfood Facial Wash
The Elemis Superfood Facial Wash is a pre-biotic gel cleanser designed to gently remove makeup and impurities. It helps balance the skin’s microflora and leaves the complexion looking refreshed and nourished.
The cleanser is very well formulated- wheatgrass extract is rich in amino acids, minerals, and trace elements; broccoli seed is a powerful antioxidant rich in Omegas 3, 6, and 9; kale extract is rich in Vitamins A, C, B6, and K; nettle extract is rich in vitamins and minerals; avocado oil contains Omegas 6 and 9; and organic pumpkin seed is rich in vitamins as well as Omegas 3 and 6 (Elemis, n.d.).
To use, massage the gel cleanser into the skin for a penetrating clean that purges pollution, dirt, and excess sebum (Elemis, n.d.). The cleanser is housed in a sleek olive green colored squeeze tube with a flip-top cap, so it’s sanitary, convenient, and easy to use, even one-handed in the shower! It has a light, fresh, natural herbal scent that’s quite pleasant.
The gentle gel formula worked well by itself, and with my FOREO Luna, as well as my Soniclear brush. Despite lathering fairly well and giving me a great clean, it was gentle, and didn’t make my skin feel “stripped.” This is fantastic as a second step in double cleanse. If I’m wearing a lot of makeup, I like to use the Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm (see our review here), then this- works like a charm!
Superfood Day Cream
Elemis Superfood Day Cream was created to moisturize the skin, leaving a plump, dewy look. Lactobionic acid enhances hydration and gently brightens, while a Supergreen Complex balances and replenishes the skin (Elemis, n.d.).
The Supergreen Complex is a well-thought out formula- goji berry is rich in antioxidants; broccoli seed is rich in Omegas 3, 6, and 9; ginger ferment has an antioxidant effect for healthy-looking skin; matcha tea is rich in antioxidants; daikon radish is rich in Omegas 6 and 9; green mandarin contains oligo-elements; and cucumber seed contains Omegas 6 and 9, tocopherols, and phytosterols (Elemis, n.d.).
Superfood Day Cream helps defend against environmental aggressors, leaving the skin looking and feeling healthy. Lactobionic acid, one of my fave skincare ingredients, helps brighten and smooth the complexion (Elemis, n.d.).
Superfood Day Cream is housed in a sleek looking airless pump bottle. This not only prevents the natural ingredients from degradation as a result of light and air exposure, but it’s also convenient and sanitary. The cream is very moisturizing, yet light and easily absorbed at the same time. Despite my oily/combo skin, I’ve had no issues whatsoever. That may change when summer arrives, and the humidity and heat wreak havoc, I’ll have to wait and see. But for right now, my skin feels fab!
Superfood Night Cream
The Superfood Night Cream from Elemis helps restore important nutrients for overnight replenishment. The formula, rich in sweet almond milk from organic hand-picked almonds, helps hydrate dry and depleted skin with the brand’s Supergrain Complex (Elemis, n.d.).
The Supergrain Complex has an equally fab formulation- barley is rich in amino acids; chia seed is rich in Omegas 3, 6, and 9, as well as Vitamin C, tocopherols, and phytosterols; quinoa contains all 8 essential amino acids; black seed is rich in Omegas 3, 6, and 9, along with vitamins; flax seed contains Omega 3 fatty acids; and rice bran is rich in Omegas 3, 6, and 9 as well as vitamins (Elemis, n.d.).
This cream helps feed dry and depleted skin with intense nutrition, and aids skin during the night time repair cycle. A pre-biotic is included to balance microflora, with the end result being a healthy, outdoor-fresh glow (Elemis, n.d.).
Like the Day Cream, the Night Cream is housed in an airless pump bottle. The cream is a slightly more greenish color than the Day Cream, and has a light herbal scent just like the other products. It’s also seems to be ever so slightly thicker than the day cream, but spreads and absorbs just as easily. I end up waking up to fresh, hydrated, glowing skin.
For an added treat, I like to follow up with the Superfood Facial Oil (read about it here), which adds even more moisture and nutrients.
I’ve really, really enjoyed these products. They’ve given me that extra bit of moisture my skin needs during the dry winter months. I’m always worried, though, about these types of products, as some of them are “too much” for my oily/combo skin. I haven’t had any problems with these- they sink into my skin and don’t feel overly heavy.
I will admit, though, that I prefer the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream (read about it here) to the Superfood, but that makes sense since the Marine Cream is one of my new HG products- it’s going to be really, really, really hard to beat that one.
Despite the Marine Cream still being my fave, the Superfood line is stellar. I can’t find anything I don’t like about it. The products are jam-packed with skin-loving nutrients, and it feels like a luxurious spa experience when using them- even the natural scent is uplifting and relaxing at the same time. The whole experience turns skincare into a pleasure rather than a chore. If you don’t like silicones (there’s a small bit in the Marine Cream), and prefer a “greener” type of product, Superfood is definitely for you. Even if you’re not into “green” beauty, this is a really reasonably-priced collection compared with others of similar stature and quality, so be sure to see the links below and check it out!
