Oh. My. Gosh. YESSSSSSS!!!! You read that title correctly- Exuviance has a new face oil!!! Okay, now that you know how excited I am about this, I hope you’re all having a fantastic day!
Having had acne as a teen, and dealing with combination skin now, I never would have dreamed of putting oil on my face. But, the right kind of oil can actually minimize acne, and work wonders for the skin. But, how do you know what’s good and what’s not?
With facial oils being such a “thing” now, there are so many fly-by-night companies marketing any mish-mash of oils they can manage to put into a bottle. If you’ve read our previous posts, you probably know that one of my fave, most trusted brands of skincare is Exuviance. The brand was founded by Drs. Van Scot and Yu, the original patent-holders of the glycolic (“lunchtime”) peel. The company continues to stay on the cutting edge of skincare, using scientifically-proven ingredients and formulations.
As you may guess, a brand like Exuviance would likely have the ability to create a really, really, really great facial oil. Not having had an oil in their collection, I’ve long been waiting for them to make one. Well, the time is here! I love that they took the time to create a well thought out formula, without rushing the process just to get one on the market. This reassures me of the quality and effectiveness.
The formula utilizes the brand’s trademarked CitraFill, along with a blend of Vitamins F, A, C, E, and light botanical oils. These ingredients work to address visible signs of aging while conditioning the skin and protecting against environmental stressors that can hasten the appearance of aging (Exuviance, 2018).
The actual ingredients include jojoba esters, apricot kernel oil, grape seed oil, sunflower seed oil, cranberry seed oil, argan oil, and retinyl palmitate, among others (Exuviance, 2018). As these oils aren’t overly heavy, CitraFirm can be used on all skin types- even my oily/combo skin!
With retinoids being proven to be effective against the signs of aging, I love that Exuviance included retinyl palmitate. As most of the brand’s products are appropriate for use on sensitive skin, retinyl palmitate is at the bottom of the list when it comes to irritation. I also like that I can easily use this in conjunction with prescription tretinoin, or even alternate the products.
CitraFirm Face Oil is housed in a high-quality, frosted glass bottle with a dropper. For me, the only negative is that it’s not in a pump bottle, considering I’m VERY clumsy and have to take extra care not to tip it over while using…lol. The good news is that since it’s a substantial bottle, it’s not as likely to fall over as some others. And, the dropper allows for easy dispensation of the exact amount you want to use.
The oil is very light, almost “slippery,” if that makes sense, so it’s super easy to spread and actually sinks into my skin. So many other oils I’ve tried tend to just sit on top of my skin, but not this one- so that’s another sign that it’s well-formulated. This doesn’t really come as a surprise, though, considering it’s from Exuviance…lol.
I don’t use facial oils under makeup, no matter how light they are. But, even when you’re oily, if you don’t hydrate properly, your skin will over-produce oil. When I use the oil at night, I wake up to skin that’s SO soft. During the day, if I’m not wearing makeup, I’ll put a drop or two on my fingers, then press the oil into my face.
So, what’s the final verdict? Well, as I mentioned earlier, I was SO excited about this- and Exuviance did not disappoint! The formula was every bit as fabulous as I expected. I love how soft and hydrated my skin feels when using the CitraFirm, and it has the added benefit of my skin not being as oily from over-production- so it’s a winner in so many ways!
