Hey everyone! Happy Lipstick Day!!!
As a lipstick lover, this is a very welcome holiday- one that I haven’t been dreading like I do with so many others…lol.
So, I most often wear nude and red lipsticks because they’re classical and versatile. They’re also easy to use on the go without having to go through the fuss of deciding which color I want to wear. But, in honor of National Lipstick Day, I decided to try out some shades I normally wouldn’t wear, just for fun.

Since I would be trying out some bright colors, I knew I would likely need lip liner, so I used the Buxom PlumpLine Lip Liner in Stealth, a nude tone; and CoverGirl Exhibitionist Lip Liner in Paradise Pink.
The Buxom PlumpLine is a thicker pencil with a brush on one end, so the liner can be blended into the center of the lips for more coverage. This is especially helpful when you want a lip color on top to really pop and look more even in color.
The CoverGirl Exhibitionist liner is a twist-up pen, and the liner itself is angled. This is a bit trickier for getting a fine line, but it makes it much easier to fill in the entire lip area. Plus, you don’t need a sharpener, so it’s great for travel.
Buxom VaVaPlump Shiny Liquid Lipstick
The first one I tried out was the Buxom VaVa Plump Shiny Liquid Lipstick in Kiss & Tell
I like that despite the liquid formula, it’s not drying like all the matte liquid formulas out there. It actually felt smooth and moisturizing, and didn’t leave my lips dry and peeling when I took it off.

CoverGirl Stop the Press Metallic
This color isn’t really bright, but it’s an odd color with bright pink shimmer particles, so I really wanted to try it out. I’ve found that drugstore metallic formulas don’t always go on very smoothly- so I was really excited that this one applied with no problems- it was a breeze!
The formula is light and hydrating, and it was easily buildable for a more dramatic look. I also liked that it was easy to remove, with no big glittery stains left behind. It seems metallic formulas have come a long way since I first started “playing” with them as a pre-teen!
Ecco Bella Flowercolor Lipstick in Merlot
Okay, I’ll admit, this is a shade that I would normally wear, and I often do…lol. I had to include it, though, because it’s a deep wine shade, and I know so many people who tend to shy away from these deeper colors.
Ecco Bella is a green beauty brand, and their formulas are not only cruelty-free and sustainable, but they’re user-friendly, too! This super-duper moisturizing formula is a bit more sheer than other deep shades, and you can build it up if you want. So, if you’re apprehensive, give this one a shot!

CoverGirl Just Sayin Demi Matte
Okay, so those of you who have been keeping up with us know how much I loathe pink. But how can I encourage others to venture out of their comfort zones if I don’t do so myself? So, I looked through the shades CoverGirl sent, and found the boldest, most beautiful pink- Just Sayin.
The demi matte formula went on easily and evenly, and despite my disdain for pink, I think it was really well done. Whoever created this color did a great job of making something bold and bright, that was also wearable on almost any skin tone. Pleasantly surprised with this shade!
Au Naturale Eternity Lipstick in Cha Cha
Au Naturale Eternity Lipstick in the shade Cha Cha is one of those lipsticks that I reach for repeatedly. It’s 100% natural, nothing bad in it, so due to the natural ingredients, it doesn’t go on quite as smoothly as formulas that are loaded with silicones, etc. I mean, you could EAT this stuff if you want to (it smells pretty darn good, too).
Once you apply, though, the color is even, and it stays put. The only time I have to reapply is after eating a large meal. When I take it off, my lips feel even better than they did before I applied. And the color is just SO gorgeous!

Buxom Full-On Lip Cream in Wild Orchid
So this is another color many people may find intimidating. I have a KVD lip color
The thing I like about the Buxom plumpers is that you can wear them alone, or layer them over other lip colors to change the tone. You can play around with a lot of different looks, while plumping and moisturizing your lips at the same time.

Buxom Big & Sexy Bold Gel Lipstick in Matte Wildfire
And last but not least, the Buxom Big & Sexy Bold Gel Lipstick in Wildfire. I have this same lipstick in a few other shades, and the formula is stellar. It’s the closest I’ve tried to my beloved Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope and Silver Screen lippies. It glides on so easily, and it’s super lightweight, so my lips don’t feel suffocated.
Anyway, I included this shade because I normally wear reds with a blue undertone. I drink a lot of tea, and love red wine, so I prefer shades that don’t make my teeth look yellow…lol. The moment I laid eyes on this, though, it took my breath away. This is definitely a shade I’ll be wearing quite a bit!

Overall, I’m thrilled with all of these formulas and shades. I really enjoy trying new things, and even had fun with the hot pink! So, step on out of your comfort zone, and try some new shades- you may be surprised at finding something new that you didn’t think would be so fun!
Oh yeah, and happy National Lipstick Day!
