Happy hump day, everyone- hope your week so far has been swell! 😉
What’s your biggest skin concern? I’ve started paying more attention to anti-aging products, but I’ve ALWAYS been paranoid about acne. I had acne as a teen, and still deal with oily skin, and the occasional breakout. I had prescription treatments and even OTC products when I was younger- while effective, they were irritating af!
When DERMA E sent me their doctor-developed anti-acne line, it was a most pleasant surprise! I love that the brand doesn’t use any nasty chemicals, and they’re backed by science- and dermatologists. When I can use this type of product, and be confident that I won’t have any bad side effects, it’s always a good day. DERMA E’s anti-acne regimen consists of Acne Deep Pore Cleansing Wash, Acne Blemish Control Treatment Serum
Acne Deep Pore Cleansing Wash
One of my biggest worries with cleansers is that they’ll be overly drying. When you have oily skin, over-cleansing can backfire and result in overproduction of oil. Yuck! Leave it to DERMA E to have a cleanser that can clear impurities while nourishing at the same time, without stripping moisture!
Active ingredients in Acne Deep Pore Cleansing Wash are salicylic acid, tea tree oil, willow bark extract, lavender, and chamomile. Salicylic acid and willow bark help clear out the pores, tea tree oil has anti-bacterial effects, while lavender and chamomile are soothing. The end result is fresher skin without the irritation or dryness.
The cleanser is housed in a clear, convenient pump bottle, which makes it easy to dispense in the shower or at the sink. It has a natural tea tree scent- I happen to LOVE the smell of tea tree oil, but I know many don’t, so no worries, it’s VERY light! It’s a light colored liquid, and lathers just enough so you know it’s working, without being overly foamy. If you want more lather, just use it with a sonic cleansing device. The cleanser rinses easily, leaving my skin super clean without feeling tight and dry.
Acne Blemish Control Treatment Serum
The best part about serums is that they’re usually the step in your regimen that has the highest concentration of actives, but are often thin enough to be easily layered with other products. As an added bonus, they can also help increase the absorption of the next step.
DERMA E Acne Blemish Control Treatment Serum contains the previously mentioned Anti-Blemish Complex, consisting of salicylic acid, willow bark extract, tea tree oil, lavender, and chamomile. I love that the research on the product has shown that it not only helps address breakouts that have already occurred, but prevents them as well (DERMA E, 2019).
The serum comes packaged in a pump bottle, which makes it easy to dispense the perfect amount. It smooths on easily, no stickiness, and a little bit goes a long way. I even use this near my eye area without any irritation (always do a test spot!). Love!
Acne Rebalancing Cream
I usually prefer a lighter weight moisturizer, with something a bit richer in the winter when having be in drier environments. It’s not often I find a creamier product that doesn’t feel too heavy or overwhelming. DERMA E Acne Rebalancing Cream
The formula is housed in a jar, which is the only negative. I don’t like the idea of constantly exposing product to air and light, and the idea of dipping fingers repeatedly into product seems counterproductive. This can introduce bacteria, and with acne-prone skin, we need to avoid bacteria, right? I would like to see this repackaged and put into a tube or pump bottle, but for now, it’s easy enough to transfer into a travel container, so not a deal-breaker, especially at such a reasonable price.
The cream contains the same Anti-Blemish Complex as the other products, but adds a dose of balancing moisture. The cream is easy to spread, and is readily absorbed, and doesn’t leave a greasy feeling. Since it leaves skin balanced, it doesn’t end up producing excess oil.
I’m very happy over all with the DERMA E Anti-Acne line. All the products contain the Anti-Blemish Complex, so they work very well together. I stay away from harsh formulas with ingredients like benzoyl peroxide because of the irritation. Salicylic acid, a BHA, is effective, yet gentle. In a way, since it’s oil-soluble and can penetrate deeper, it’s stronger despite being non-irritating. I’m left with fresh, clean, clear, and glowing skin!
Bonus!! It’s also important to note that since salicylic acid is an exfoliant, it’s also a powerful anti-aging active. So… you get the benefits of clearer, YOUNGER looking skin, at a very reasonable price point! Check it all out at DERMAE.com!
