I had never heard of Valentia, so I was very pleased to get the opportunity to experience some of their products. And, when I found out the cruelty-free products were created in a lab owned and operated by women, well, that just made me more excited!
The brand gets its name from Valentia, the Roman goddess of healing, who relied on natural substances to heal the citizens of Umbria. Whether a farmer needed help for damaged skin, or a woman wanted to look more youthful, Valentia used herbs, barks, berries, and other natural ingredients. Just like its namesake, the brand also relies on the preventative, protective, and corrective properties of natural ingredients (Valentia, 2015).
The products I received are the True Glow Eye Cream and Ultra Plumping Hydration Mask. In addition to being cruelty-free, both vegan friendly products are made using sustainable energy and 98% natural ingredients (Valentia, 2015).
When my products arrived, there was a little card that said “Everyday Luxury.” I really liked this idea- and the white boxes with metallic gold just exuded luxury. I think it would do us all some good to have a little bit of luxury every day!
True Glow Eye Cream
The True Glow Eye Cream is purported to nourish and hydrate, reduce wrinkles and fine lines, tighten the under eye area, reduce puffiness, and brighten dark circles. The key ingredients are as follows: astaxanthin, an antioxidant that helps smooth wrinkles and fine lines, restores elasticity, and increases moisture; Resistem natural plant stem cells help repair and protect the skin from stress and pollutants; Vitamin C helps brighten the skin for a well-rested look; organic rosehip oil helps hydrate and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and lines; and arnica is an anti-inflammatory agent that helps reduce dark circles (Valentia, 2015).
The ingredient list of the Valentia True Glow Eye Cream is quite impressive and is chock-full of antioxidants and botanicals. In addition to water, the top two ingredients are aloe leaf juice and botanical hyaluronic acid- so this is a great sign.
The True Glow Eye Cream comes in a very convenient, sanitary glass bottle with a pump that makes it easy to dispense the perfect amount. Although the bottle is translucent, I like that it’s dark because it protects the cream from light, and prevents the ingredients from being rendered unstable. Valentia recommends using the eye cream twice a day after cleansing, by dabbing gently around the eye area in a circular motion.
The True Glow Eye Cream didn’t really have much of a fragrance, just very, very light citrus- so if you’re sensitive, you’re good to go! It was also easy to spread and absorbed very readily without being sticky or greasy. My makeup and concealer wore very well over it, with no adverse effects. While I can’t attest to the wrinkle reducing or brightening properties in such a short time, I can say that my eye area is definitely more hydrated. As a result of that hydration, my fine lines did look a bit less obvious.
Overall, I would say the Valentia True Glow Eye Cream is a very good quality product. And, at the current $25 price tag, it’s well worth the investment, especially with the lifetime money back guarantee!
Ultra Plumping Hydration Mask
According to Valentia, the Ultra Plumping Hydration Mask helps reduce fine lines, increases collagen production, fights environmental irritants, and instantly restores radiance. Key ingredients include: silk protein amino acid blend to help increase moisture, collagen, and elastin to reduce visible lines; botanical hyaluronic acid to secure moisture and plump skin; organic sea buckthorn oil helps diminish sun spots and fine lines; Japanese green tea provides anti-inflammatory and anti-aging effects; and aloe vera to moisturize and fight aging (Valentia, 2015).
As with the eye cream, the ingredient list is impressive, with water and aloe leaf juice being at the top, followed by kosher vegetable glycerin and camellia leaf extract. This mask is absolutely LOADED with great botanicals!
The only negative I could think of is the jar. I’m not sure why, with all the research abundantly available, but it seems like jar packaging is standard for luxury skincare. There is a matter of hygiene, as repeatedly dipping fingers into the jar introduces bacteria. Also, products with antioxidants need to be packaged in a manner to minimize light and air exposure, or they can become unstable and less effective (Kaur, Kapila & Agrawal, 2007). With such great ingredients, it’s a shame that after the first few uses, they won’t be as effective. But, again, the ingredients are awesome, so this should not be a deterrent. I simply transferred mine into a bottle.
Valentia recommends applying the mask and leaving on for 15-30 minutes, then removing with a damp cloth. I tried taking a photo with the mask on, but since it became translucent on my face, I couldn’t really get a decent shot.
Let me just say, this stuff smells SO. GOOD. As soon as I opened the jar, I just wanted to keep smelling it forever and ever. And ever! It smelled like some sort of delicious citrus candy, OMG. The hubby thought it was a bit too strong, but once I got it onto my face, the scent dissipated quickly.
It went on my face so easily, and I just kept wanting to pile more on- love, love, love! At first, it tingled a bit, but after a few minutes, it felt so light on my face that I forgot it was there. I ended up leaving it on for about 45 minutes, and when I removed it, my face was a bit sticky. So… I started over and tried it again, leaving on no longer than 30 minutes, as directed, and NO stickiness- just soft, smooth skin!
I didn’t really notice a lot of plumping, but I don’t have any major lines or wrinkles yet. However, my face felt very hydrated, smooth, and soft, so much so that I just wanted to keep touching it! Well worth the $25 price!
Over all, I’m very pleased with these Valentia products. As I mentioned at the beginning, I’m always up for trying a brand I have never heard of. It’s a real joy when the product turns out to be so superb.
