The chillier weather is here, and I’m so NOT loving it.  Ugggghhhh…  But, thankfully, great products can keep our skin looking fab and dewy, no matter the environment.

Since I have oily/combination skin, it took me a while to get into facial oils.  I know that’s irrational- just like cholesterol in food doesn’t cause the cholesterol in our bodies to skyrocket, facial oils don’t cause our skin to be oilier.  But, having gone through the whole acne thing as an adolescent, it was still difficult to slather oil onto my face.

However, a lot of the skincare products I was already using contained oils, and I’d had no problems.  When I was a teenager, I thought the answer was to dry my skin out as much as possible.  I couldn’t have been more wrong.  If skin is lacking oil or moisture, it will overproduce oil, resulting in congested pores, acne, and all matter of ickiness.

So, a couple years ago, despite being “late to the game,” I decided to try a camellia oil before bed.  I was surprised at how light it was, not like the heavy oils I’d used in my hair.  I was amazed at how great my skin looked the next day after I washed my face.  Wow!

So, I went ahead and started experimenting and trying about every oil out there…lol!  I’ve found some wonderful formulas that I really like.  The only problem is that none of them actually absorb into my skin.  It’s not as if I’m piling them on, either.  I usually take a drop or two, rub between my fingers, and press into my skin.  Even so, with such a small amount, oils just don’t absorb.

Always on the lookout for great oils, and on a continual hunt for one that will actually sink in, I was both excited and apprehensive when this Superfood Facial Oilicon was included in a package sent to me by Elemis.  Well, the excitement won out…

Before I go on, though, a bit about this oil- it contains a blend of concentrated superfoods that deeply hydrate and nourish.  Antioxidant and omega-rich flax seed, broccoli, and daikon radish feed the skin, helping to smooth and plump.  The lightweight, non-greasy formula is purportedly easily absorbed.

Okay, back to my impatience… I was barely able to have the self-discipline to take photos prior to using this, but I did try it before looking at the entire ingredient list.  I usually check out ingredients first, as we all should, but the word “Superfood” did me in.

First off, Elemis Superfood Facial Oil is housed in an elegant, sleek, frosted glass dropper bottle that’s shaped kind of like an oil drop.  It really is neat!  I do wish it was in a pump since I’m REALLY clumsy…lol!  But, the dropper is actually perfect, though, since it makes dispensing the exact amount needed super easy.

I put two drops onto my fingertips, and rubbed between my fingers, as directed.  The Elemis website also recommends taking time to smell the oil- which I did.  OMG, this smelled absolutely AMAZING.  It was a very pleasant, natural herbal scent, like I was at a spa.  Leave it to Elemis to give us all a spa experience at home, right…?!?

So, I started applying the oil to my skin, and lo and behold… it actually started absorbing into my face!!!!!  Our three parrots must have thought I had gone bananas, because I actually kind of jumped up and down and squealed…lol!

My skin felt amazing, and looked amazing.  So, then I decided to look at the entire ingredient list.  I found caprylic/capric triglyceride!  While at first glance, this may seem like an evil chemical of sorts, it’s really not.  I’ve found this in several products I really like, and researched it a while back.

Just to be sure, I looked it up again just so I wouldn’t give you the wrong info- Caprylic/capric triglyceride is a derivative of glycerin and coconut oils.  It’s not fractionated coconut oil, but it is a liquid consistency, and it’s used not only as an emollient in skincare, but it’s also used as a solvent, as well as to disperse and thin out other ingredients (Wasserman, 2017).

There are a ton of great oils in this Superfood blend, some of them with thinner consistencies than others.  I’m not sure what exactly makes this sink in on me, but I think the oil blend along with the caprylic/capric triglyceride is the magical combination for my skin!

The other thing I like about the Elemis Superfood Facial Oilicon is that it consists of a blend of many different oils (as do their Pro-Collagen Marine and Pro-Definition Oils).  Experts always recommend that we get our nutrition, and our skincare antioxidants, from a variety of sources for maximum efficacy.  This would be like the difference between only eating meat and potatoes as opposed to eating a balanced diet with foods from every group.

I’ve tried SO many facial oils, and this is literally the first one that actually sinks into my oily skin.  Living in humid Louisiana, I’ve NEVER been able to wear a facial oil during the day, especially not under makeup.  This is one I CAN wear any time, even under a full face of makeup!

If you’ve been looking for a phenomenal facial oil that will actually sink into your skin, look no further than Elemis Superfood Facial Oil.  My skin ends up soft and glowing, and stays hydrated without any greasiness.  It’s available at Elemis.com, TimeToSpa.com, and Nordstrom.comicon.  Now go get glowing!
