Aang aang! Hello!
Hope you’re all being careful in this heat- and as my nephew used to remind us, we need to stay “adequately hydrated.” (He was such a smart kid- now an even smarter teen…lol).
We also need to make sure to take good care of our skin. With the heat and sunnier weather, we need to protect ourselves from skin cancer as well as photo-aging. A while back, maybe a year or so ago, I got an email from Derma E– they were asking for opinions on ingredients for a possible BB Cream. I was happy to oblige, as I’ve been quite pleased with the products I’ve used from the brand, and I really like that they sought input from consumers and bloggers.
Fast forward… Another package arrived from Derma E
This light weight BB Cream
First off, I love the packaging! You get 1.5 ounces of product, so it’s a very good value, but the tube is sleek and small enough to stash in my bag. It also keeps the product from being exposed to light and air, which can degrade the antioxidants. And the silver toned printing makes it look more lux!
Derma E Tinted Moisturizing BB Cream SPF 30
If you have dry skin, this is great as a primer. My skin is oily, so I prefer a silicone-based primer (with the exception of REN’s Perfect Canvas
At first, I was a bit worried about there only being five shades- Fair, Light, Medium, Tan & Deep. I feel like there should be a wider range, especially one darker than the Deep. Since it’s a tinted moisturizer, though, and not a foundation, the formula isn’t as pigmented, so it’s easier for a single shade to work for multiple skin colors. The Medium works perfect for me right now, and by the end of summer, the Tan will be my choice.
I like that there seems to be a slightly yellow undertone- I’m Native, so it works great, especially for neutralizing some of my discoloration. Despite being a zinc-heavy formula, it’s oil-free, so I haven’t noticed any problems with it aggravating my acne-prone skin.
I’ve found that if I want lighter coverage, using a blending sponge like the one included in my box works very well- just make sure you get it wet first, then wring out the excess water. This will prevent the sponge from “eating up” your product. Since I have a good bit of discoloration, though, I’ve been using a foundation brush to get slightly more coverage. (You’ll have to ignore the dirty brush- I forgot to take a pic before I applied it to my face, so I dispensed a bit more onto the brush right after I used it to get a pic…lol).
Overall, I’ve been very pleased with the Derma E Tinted Moisturizing BB Cream SPF 30
