Aang aang!  Hello!

Hope you’re all being careful in this heat- and as my nephew used to remind us, we need to stay “adequately hydrated.”  (He was such a smart kid- now an even smarter teen…lol).

We also need to make sure to take good care of our skin.  With the heat and sunnier weather, we need to protect ourselves from skin cancer as well as photo-aging.  A while back, maybe a year or so ago, I got an email from Derma E– they were asking for opinions on ingredients for a possible BB Cream.  I was happy to oblige, as I’ve been quite pleased with the products I’ve used from the brand, and I really like that they sought input from consumers and bloggers.

Fast forward…  Another package arrived from Derma E, and when I opened it, I was so excited to see that they had sent me all five shades of their new Tinted Moisturizing BB Cream SPF 30+!  Any kind of sun protection product is something I can’t wait to get onto my face.  The only formulas that used to be available when I was growing up would feel terrible and “suffocate” my skin, not to mention clog up my pores.  But now, there are some fantastic formulas on the market, and I had a really good feeling about this one.

This light weight BB Creamicon is formulated with non-nano zinc oxide to protect from UVA/UVB rays, and is infused with bilberry, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E.  Bilberry extract helps improve skin tone and addresses premature signs of aging; Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that has anti-aging and skin brightening properties; and Vitamin E helps soften, soothe, hydrate, and condition the skin while helping to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines (Derma E, 2019).

First off, I love the packaging!  You get 1.5 ounces of product, so it’s a very good value, but the tube is sleek and small enough to stash in my bag.  It also keeps the product from being exposed to light and air, which can degrade the antioxidants.  And the silver toned printing makes it look more lux!

Derma E Tinted Moisturizing BB Cream SPF 30icon can be worn by itself, or as a primer under your choice of foundation or other makeup.  I’ve tried it both ways and was happy with each.  I do tend to develop a good bit of hyperpigmentation, especially in the summers, despite religious use of sun protection.  So, if I have an event, I like a bit more coverage, but for every day use, this stuff is fab.

If you have dry skin, this is great as a primer.  My skin is oily, so I prefer a silicone-based primer (with the exception of REN’s Perfect Canvas, read my review here).  However, it did provide a nice moisturized base for my foundation when used to prime.  I’ve mostly been using this just on its own, though, because I can get a bit of coverage and look like I at least put a tiny bit of effort into my appearance, without looking overly “done” or taking time to do a full face.

At first, I was a bit worried about there only being five shades- Fair, Light, Medium, Tan & Deep.  I feel like there should be a wider range, especially one darker than the Deep.  Since it’s a tinted moisturizer, though, and not a foundation, the formula isn’t as pigmented, so it’s easier for a single shade to work for multiple skin colors.  The Medium works perfect for me right now, and by the end of summer, the Tan will be my choice.

I like that there seems to be a slightly yellow undertone- I’m Native, so it works great, especially for neutralizing some of my discoloration.  Despite being a zinc-heavy formula, it’s oil-free, so I haven’t noticed any problems with it aggravating my acne-prone skin.

I’ve found that if I want lighter coverage, using a blending sponge like the one included in my box works very well- just make sure you get it wet first, then wring out the excess water.  This will prevent the sponge from “eating up” your product.  Since I have a good bit of discoloration, though, I’ve been using a foundation brush to get slightly more coverage.  (You’ll have to ignore the dirty brush- I forgot to take a pic before I applied it to my face, so I dispensed a bit more onto the brush right after I used it to get a pic…lol).

Wearing Derma E Tinted Moisturizing BB Cream SPF 30 in Medium

Overall, I’ve been very pleased with the Derma E Tinted Moisturizing BB Cream SPF 30icon.  In addition to sun protection, it contains some great anti-aging actives, and nourishes the skin.  It’s also reasonably priced at $19.95, so it’s easier on the wallet if you’d like more than one shade!  Available at DermaE.com.
