Blue Winged Eyes with NARS

Ever since we started shopping at Sephora regularly, I’ve been more daring with my makeup.  When I started blogging, I started taking even more risks.  I’m glad, because I’ve discovered some looks that I really like!  I’ve even found that if I use more sedated colors, I can get away with a really daring technique, even for every day wear.  But today, I wanted to do something less subtle…

If you read my post about blue eyeshadow (found here), you know I just can’t get enough of the shade that was a staple in every eighties makeup bag!  Well, I decided to do kind of a modern twist, and do a bold blue wing!

For this look, I primed my eyelids with NARS Pro Prime Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base, then used a nude color all over my eyelids.  Then I drew out a wing with NARS Larger Than Life Longwear Eyeliner in Santa Monica Blvd. (white).  After mapping out my wing, I filled in with NARS eyeshadow in Outremer (bold blue), using Skone Cosmetics Smudger Brush (more info here).  The best part about the Skone brush is that it’s kind of a cross between a liner and a smudger, so it’s come in VERY handy!  I also used the same NARS white liner in my lower waterline, and finished with a coat of Butter London Wink Colour Mascara in Inky Sixx (blue).

One of the keys to doing something bold is balance.  Usually, when I do a bold lip, I do a more sedate eye, and vice versa.  So, I used NARS Dolce Vita, a great shade of nude.  This puts the focus on my eyes, rather than resulting in chaos in regards to what feature is standing out…lol!

Other products I used were:  Shiseido Pureness Mattifying Moisturizer for prep, Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation in Tan Sand, Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Powder, Tarte Rainforest After Dark palette (blush), NARS Miss Liberty (highlight), NARS Laguna bronzer.
