Hello, lovelies! Hope you’re all doing fab!
While we were away, a package from Elemis arrived, with the brand’s new BIOTEC skincare kit, a collaboration with FOREO. If you’ve kept up with us, you know how much I love my FOREO Luna Mini and Luna Mini 2, and that I’ve recently been “discovering” Elemis. So, I was really excited about this kit, since it involves both brands.
The BIOTEC line (or range, if you’re in the UK), consists of products made to re-energize your skincare routine for optimum vitality and function. The kit contains a full size BIOTEC Skin Energising Cleanser, Skin Energising Day Cream (8ml), Skin Energising Night Cream (8ml), and a FOREO LUNA Play Sonic Face Cleanser.
If you read our review of the FOREO Luna Mini 2 (find it here), the LUNA Play functions similarly, but it’s smaller and disposable. So, if you’re new to the brand, and not sure if you want to invest the money, or you want something for travel or to stash in your gym bag, this is perfect. As I read up on BIOTEC, it seems that the Elemis spas offer a BIOTEC facial that uses some sort of sonic device, so this is a great way to get a similar experience at home.
BIOTEC Skin Energising Cleanser
First off, the award-winning (Cosmopolitan Beauty Awards) cleanser is meant to “kick-start” the BIOTEC system, and prepare the skin for optimal performance, creating the perfect environment for the day and night moisturizers (Elemis, n.d.).
The cleanser is formulated with a trio of acids in an energizing electrolyte solution, which results in deep cleansing action that reduces surface oil and impurities, and re-balances the skin. The complexion is left energized, looking fresh and revived (Elemis, n.d.).
I was really pleased with the active ingredients: succinic, lactic, and ferulic acids, along with electrolytes and trace mineral elements (Elemis, n.d.). Lactic acid has long been one of my fave ingredient (ever since using Sunday Riley’s Good Genes), as I find my skin responds really well to it. Ferulic acid also has a lot of scientific research backing up the benefits, and I like the addition of minerals and electrolytes.
The cleanser is AMAZING. It almost smells like expensive perfume, but not overpowering, just lightly lux, if that makes sense. It does contain amber, and although amber extract doesn’t really have a smell on its own, the other ingredients, such as patchouli, seem to do a great job of creating the lux scent.
BIOTEC Skin Energising Cleanser is housed in a sleek pump bottle that’s not only convenient, but sanitary. Although the balancing formula does lather, especially when used with the FOREO, it doesn’t leave my skin feeling tight or stripped of moisture.
If I’m wearing a lot of makeup, I’ll first cleanse with the Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm (read about it here), then follow with the BIOTEC. On the rare days I’m not testing out makeup, I can use this as a single step cleanser. I’ve also been using it in the mornings- it both helps me relax in the evenings, and wakes me up in the mornings. It really makes me feel pampered, and I can actually enjoy my skincare routine.
BIOTEC Skin Energising Day Cream
Elemis BIOTEC Skin Energising Day Cream was created to energize, revive, and hydrate. The formula, shown to increase cell energy, harnesses the benefits of encapsulated zinc and copper. A trio of acids, combined with potent phyto-bioactives, helps to support and maintain skin vitality and function (Elemis, n.d.).
The cream is enriched with antioxidants, electrolytes, and water plantain peptides to nourish and hydrate. Skin tone is visibly improved, and the complexion is left appearing smooth, youthful, and revived (Elemis, n.d.).
BIOTEC Day Cream contains two separate formulations that are combined when dispensed. The Energizer contains zinc and copper, along with oils and extracts such as patchouli, nutmeg, frankincense, coriander, and amber. The Cream formula contains the trio of acids, oils and extracts, sweet almond oil, shea butter, amber, and hyaluronic acid (Elemis, n.d.). So, both parts are impressively formulated with high-quality, innovative ingredients.
I’ve recently started loving the Pro-Collagen Marine Cream from Elemis (read about it here), as it’s light enough for my oily/combo skin and doesn’t make me feel greasy. I was a bit scared of the BIOTEC, as the formula seems a bit “heavier.” As it turns out, I didn’t have anything to worry about.
I will say that with the style of pump, you have to press evenly on the top, so that you get equal amounts of each side. If you get a bit too much of one, just rock your finger a bit toward the other side and press a bit more. After using a few times, though, I got the hang of it and didn’t have any problems.
The BIOTEC does take a few more moments to absorb than the Marine Cream, but it’s not greasy or heavy. It’s really been great for winter, considering the cold dry air and indoor heaters have dried my skin out a bit, so the extra moisture and nutrients are welcome! The cream left a nice finish on my face, and I was even able to go without primer when I didn’t need my makeup to last all day.
BIOTEC Skin Energising Night Cream
Elemis BIOTEC Skin Energising Night Cream was created to energize, replenish, and smooth the skin. The formula is powered by the brand’s patent-pending BIO-ENERGY complex of encapsulated zinc and copper (Elemis, n.d.).
Like the day moisturizer, a trio of acids, blended with a potent bio-active, helps to support and maintain dynamic cell energy. The formula is enriched with trace elements and calcium PCA to help boost night time skin vitality and nourishment. Trans-epidermal water loss is minimized, and the skin’s barrier is reinforced, resulting in a complexion that appears smooth, energized, and replenished (Elemis, n.d.).
This moisturizer also contains two separate parts that combine together. The Energizer contains copper and zinc, as well as patchouli, nutmeg, frankincense, coriander, and amber. So, it’s similar to the day cream in regards to ingredients, too, since it also contains the extracts and trio of acids. Additionally, there is hyaluronic acid, sunflower seed oil, and Vitamin E, so it contains some great moisturizers and hydrators for night time use.
As I mentioned previously, my skin is oily/combo, so I’m always a bit worried with products that contain ingredients such as shea butter and oils, but again, I didn’t have any issues. Like the day cream, you do have to press evenly enough to dispense equal amounts of each cylinder, but it’s quick to get the hang of.
I lightly massage the cream between my fingers to blend both formulas, then spread it onto my face. The consistency of the night cream is rich, yet not “suffocating” or overly heavy. This is a bit too heavy for me to wear during the day, but I didn’t end up greasy like I do with many other night creams. I think the balancing cleanser, together with the LUNA Play helps prep the skin enough so that the creams sink in better- so the claims have proven to be true!
The day and night creams also smell similar to the cleanser, so the whole regimen is very lux. At times, skincare can almost seem like a chore, but these make me feel like I’m at my own bathroom spa- so skincare becomes a welcome ritual. Plus, I love the moisturized glow, even with the cold dry weather!
This particular kit retails for $140, which is a superb deal since the LUNA Play is included! This kit is available at Elemis.com, and there are also other kits with BIOTEC products available at TimetoSpa.com.
