There are several levels of customization, ranging from gender and skin type, all the way to complete and total customization.
The BN Science line is the lowest level of customization; the products are based on gender and skin type. The Impact line is based on gender, skin type, and age. The N1-Custom line is fully customized according to each individual person’s needs. The Bio 1 Act line contains cleansers, activators, and masks, with active ingredients that work with the custom products.
For many years, this cult brand was available exclusively at Barney’s. However, in an effort to make their products more affordable, and provide better, healthier skincare to a wider clientele, they created the BN Science line, exclusively for Dermstore.
Bionova sent me the regimen recommended by their doctors, which included the Bio 1 Act Bioactive Cleanser for Oily Skin, Bio 1 Act Bioactive Mask for Oily Skin, Bio 1 Act Cream Activator for Oily Skin, and the Anti-Stress Care with UV Chromophores for Oily Skin, from the BN Science line. After achieving such phenomenal results with the lowest level of customization, it really made me wonder what my results would be from the highest level of customization.
Me in a Jar!
After testing the regimen, Bionova was once again extremely generous, and offered to send me a jar of their N1-Custom formula. Of course, I accepted! The process of creating my own, personal, custom formula was unbelievably easy, and only took a few minutes. There is no need to register prior to designing your formula- so it’s super simple if you just want to check it out!
When you first log on to Bionova’s website (www.bionovalab.com), select the N1-Custom option. This screen will look a bit different on a mobile device, you must first select the option for “skincare,” then select N1-Custom.
On the next screens, you will select your gender and age range.
Next, you will select the area you would like to treat (face, hands, eyes, etc.), and your primary concern (wrinkles, dark spots, acne, etc.).
Then you will answer questions about your environment and skin conditions.
Finally, you can add additional options, such as sun or ozone protection. At this point, you will also type in the name you want on the jar. You will then be given a price for your custom formula; if you are ready order, just click the button to go to the checkout. There are three sizes available: 0.50 oz., 1.0 oz., and 2.0 oz. The best part about N1-Custom is that you only pay for what your skin needs- no wasting money on unnecessary ingredients!
As the price will vary for each person, I blurred out my prices. Also, my formula included an image evaluation- I sent Bionova photos, including close-ups of my bare skin. Their doctors evaluated the photos, and adjusted the formula accordingly. This service is not yet available to the general public. However, Bionova is updating their website, and image evaluation will then be available for an additional charge.
Formulation & Packaging
Yet again, Bionova‘s service was stellar. I was amazed at how quickly their lab made my formula. Generally, their lab makes the product and ships it within 24-48 hours, depending on the time the order was placed. If you place your order before 1:00pm (Eastern), it is made on the same day, then shipped the next day. If you order after 1:00pm, your formula is made the next day, then shipped the following day. Like the previous shipment, my N1-Custom formula was packaged with great care. I swear, these people wrap the foam on the boxes so neatly it’s like a present!
As stated in previous posts, I really like Bionova‘s packaging. It’s simple, but very sleek- and is truly indicative of the cutting-edge formulas inside. With the N1-Custom formula, you get a cobalt jar- and that’s my favorite color- so bonus points for Bionova! The jar also comes in a box with velvety blue foam, ensuring your product arrives in perfect condition.
Guarantee
With the Bio 1 Act, Impact, and Sport lines, if you are not happy with your product, Bionova will send you a different formula. If they are not able to provide you with a formula that works for you, they will refund your money. However, since the N1-Custom formulas are completely customized, they are non-refundable. But, Bionova has such amazing customer service and they still want you to be happy! So, if you are not satisfied with your N1-Custom skincare within two weeks, they will reformulate it for you. How awesome is that…?!?!?!?!

holy cow this stuff is expensive! But I want it so bad! I think I will give up my daily lattes for a month so I can order it. Especially considering my name could be on the jar but they don’t put my name on the latte cups!
I know, right…?!?! But it’s SO concentrated, that it will last you just as long as 3 or 4 jars of your regular product. Plus, you only get what your skin can actually use- there is no “fluff”! 🙂
