Back to the Gym & Eating Clean!

me2

So, we are back to eating clean and hitting the gym!  Is this my New Year’s Resolution?  Nope.  I don’t believe in those.  A New Year’s Resolution is almost like a cop-out, like an excuse NOT to resolve to better one’s self throughout the rest of the year.  And the New Year’s Resolution crowds at the gym are always really annoying; I refuse to be one of “those” people.

Chicken Breast

Chicken breast and acorn squash- because acorn squash is SO easy and quick.

Now that I’m making it blog-official, I will have little excuse not to get off my a$$.  I’m not worried, though, that’s never really been my style.  Failure is NOT an option.  I used to do bodybuilding (natural, no drugs), so I know that when my mind is set, I’ll accomplish my goals.

Salmon Patties

Flourless salmon patties and acorn squash

My usual schedule consisted of working out five to six days a week, with about 30-45 minutes of free weights, then 30-45 minutes of cardio (usually HITT or Insanity DVDs in the cardio room at the gym).  Extreme obstacle courses were a common weekend activity- which I LOVED!!!

Going to get these muscles back again!!!

We’ve been back to eating clean since December 29, woo-hoo! Lots of lean protein and veggies.  And I’ve been eating a ton of acorn squash for lunch because it’s so easy, and quick to make.  Cut it in half, place it orange side down on a plate with a little water, zap in the microwave for three or four minutes, add some herbs, and that’s it!

spaghetti

“Spaghetti” made with zucchini noodles and lean ground turkey.

However, physical exercise won’t be as simple.  After two emergency surgeries (including a ruptured appendix), and constantly dealing with sciatica in addition to surgical recovery, I will have to get back into working out very slowly.  As much as I want to get right back into hard core workouts and triple drop sets (I don’t lift light for a female my age…), I will gradually build back up to that.  I’m doing a lot of stretching and isometric/bodyweight exercises, along with low impact cardio to start.

The best part is that I’m not doing this alone!  Jerry is eating clean with me, is also ready to get back into the gym, and has had several surgeries as well.  So, we’re both in the same boat.  I’m noticing other friends have been bitten by the health bug, too.   The awesome power lifter, Katarina P., has her eye on healthier eating- maybe I can trade her recipes for lifting tips…???  Preston Shane, an MMA fighter/boxer from back home (my sister used to fight), has started juicing again- the drink, not steroids…lol.  He loves Shaun T. as much as I do- I can just hear him in my head now!

The green stuff will make Preston win again!

With so many people in my life who enjoy being fit and healthy, staying motivated will be easy-peasy!

Failure is NOT an option.  NO EXCUSES!

    • Hello! There is a box that says “Subscribe to Blog,” enter you email address and click. That’s it! Thanks for your support 🙂

  2. Hello! I know this is kinda off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are you using for this
site? I’m getting fed up of WordPress because I’ve had problems with hackers
and I’m looking at alternatives for another platform.
I would be fantastic if you could point me in the direction of a
    good platform.

    • Hello! You must be new to the blogging world, just like me! On some blogs, it’s easy to tell what platform is used, especially if it’s WordPress. For example, if you look at the “Meta” section of my blog, you will see that it says “WordPress.org.” This means that my platform is WordPress. Hope this helps, and good luck! 🙂

    • Hello! My sister and nephews gifted me with a Vegetti- so we’ve been using it a LOT. It’s super easy to use (and clean). Vegetti spaghetti is actually quicker and easier than regular spaghetti, all one pan, and no need to boil the noodles. Just sautee it all together! 🙂
