Unfortunately, the red wine I love so much tends to stain my teeth. So, I was beyond happy when Oral-B sent me the Pro 5000 SmartSeries toothbrush with Bluetooth connectivity for review. A Bluetooth…toothbrush…??? Why, yes! The toothbrush connects to your Smart Phone and provides helpful feedback about your brushing habits. It will also tell you when it’s time to move to a different area of your mouth, and even remind you to floss!
The first thing I noticed when checking the instructions was the big section about a clock. Although the manual covered several models, I searched the box for a clock, when there was not supposed to be one. So, right away, it was a bit confusing. It also takes a full 24 hours to charge the first time.
Since this is a great product and I would like to end on a positive note, I will start with the negatives. The instruction manual could be rewritten, or a they could have a separate one for this particular model. This would eliminate the confusion in regards to the “un-missing” clock. Next, I keep my phone in a different part of the house than my toothbrush. Due to certain circumstances, this cannot be changed. It was a bit of a hassle to have to go get my phone each time I brushed my teeth. Finally, when your tooth brushing is timed, it becomes the longest two minutes of your life! (Not Oral-B’s fault, lol!)
As for the positives- my teeth got REALLY clean. The feedback provided was great and in-depth. If you have any problems with brushing too hard, staying in one area too long or not long enough, forgetting to floss, etc., this feature is very helpful. It also comes with a handy travel case so you can easily take the toothbrush with you on the go. Also, I have a lot of dental work, and it was gentle enough that I didn’t experience any problems. (Although, it’s always best to check with your dentist prior to using an electric toothbrush if you have any type of dental work.)
Personally, I would have gotten more use out of the model with a clock, then I wouldn’t have to go across the house to fetch my phone just to brush my teeth. As it is, I will continue to use the toothbrush, but I will not be using the Bluetooth feature. My phone will stay where it is. Better yet, it would be just super if they had a model with the Bluetooth connectivity and a clock, then there would be more flexibility. But, if you keep your phone near your toothbrush, or if you travel a lot, or need to learn better brushing habits, this is perfect!
