Valentia is a newer brand of skincare, and it’s truly been a pleasure reviewing some of their products. (FYI- Valentia products are made in a lab owned and operated by women!) So, when I got the chance to test out their Royal Rose Hydrating Serum, I was really happy!

According to Valentia, this lightweight serum will deeply moisturize the skin, provide antioxidant protection, soothe and nourish dry skin, smooth texture and skin tone, and boost radiance (Valentia, 2015).

Key ingredients are Damascus rose, niacinimide, rosehip seed oil, evening primrose oil, and bearberry. Rose damascene is one of the most nourishing and skin friendly oils found in nature. It provides balance, moisture and various vitamins and minerals. Niacinimide, or Vitamin B, has been clinically shown to help fade hyperpigmentation and acne spots. Rosehip seed oil, which is rich in vitamins C & A, helps lock in moisture. Evening primrose oil helps moisturize the skin without irritation or clogging pores. Bearberry helps lighten the skin by reducing melanin production, which in turn, reveals a brighter complexion (Valentia, 2015).

At first, I was a bit worried about the rose. While I absolutely adore the smell of roses, it can often be too strong in skincare products. That was not the case with Valentia Royal Rose Hydrating Serum! It has a very light, clean, natural rose scent- kind of like a modern, younger, updated version of your grandma’s skincare. It’s comforting and clean, but not heavy. After a few minutes, the scent dissipates, so it shouldn’t be a problem even if you’re sensitive.

The texture was not quite what I expected- it was closer to a gel-lotion than most serums, which I really like. It went on smoothly and didn’t run all over the place; and since it’s lightweight, it absorbed easily. I have oily/combination skin, so certain products won’t work for me. If I don’t get enough moisture, then my skin overproduces oil. If I get the wrong kind of moisture, I get greasy.  This was just right- light enough that my face didn’t become an oil slick, but it was very hydrating and kept my skin soft!

Valentia Royal Rose Hydrating Serum retails for $35.00 and is available at Valentia and Amazon.
