The first signs of aging usually show up when we’re in our 20s, with fine lines around the eye area. In our 30s and 40s, our skin continually and gradually shows loss of firmness and elasticity (Somme Institute, 2016).
After trying out the Somme Institute skincare regimen and being very pleased with my results (see my review here), I was ecstatic when the company sent me their Skin Reset to try out. It always makes me happy when I get to evaluate products from trusted, scientifically-backed brands.
Somme Institute Skin Reset is a restructuring cream that was created to fight the signs of aging. The formula contains the company’s double-patented MDT5 technology (read more here). As a result of MDT5, Skin Reset is purported to visibly fill wrinkles, improve skin from being lax and wrinkled to firm and smooth, and provide even tone along with brighter skin (Somme Institute, 2016).
Somme Institute Skin Reset contains some impressive ingredients. There are some great moisturizers such as sunflower seed oil, mango seed butter, and jojoba esters. Antioxidants, such as Vitamin E and various botanicals help protect skin, while niacinimide is great for redness and inflammation. To top it all off, the formula is chock-full of peptides- powerful cell communicating ingredients that help stimulate collagen production.
Somme Institute recommends using Skin Reset at night, when the skin rests and “resets” itself. It can also be used during the day for more dehydrated and/or mature skin. It’s important to note that due to the restructuring properties, it should not be overworked into the skin (Somme Institute).
Since I love this product so much and want to end on a positive note, I’ll start with the negative- the jar packaging. In order to prevent degradation and destabilization of antioxidants in skincare, products should be packaged to minimize exposure to light and air (Kaur, Kapila & Agrawal, 2007).
Since Somme Institute Skin Reset ingredients are encapsulated and protected due to the MDT5 technology, I’m not sure the jar is as much of an issue, though. However, there’s still a matter of cleanliness and contamination. Repeatedly dipping fingers into a product can introduce germs and contaminants. Do not let this dissuade you from a great product! You can either transfer the cream into a more sanitary package, or make sure to wash and dry your hands prior to using, and use a little spatula to scoop out the cream.
How did the Somme Institute Skin Reset perform? Let me just say, this stuff is thick and RICH. Even so, it still spreads very smoothly and easily. Having oily skin, I only use this is at night as directed. It has a very light, fresh scent, almost like candy but quite natural- perhaps from the botanical and fruit extracts? If you’re sensitive to fragrance, no worries, it’s very light and dissipates quickly.
When I wake up, my skin is very dewy and hyper-moist, but not greasy. As soon as I wash my face, my skin is left very smooth and soft. I’ve been using this for a couple months, and in that amount of time, I’ve noticed plumping in areas with fine lines. The lines on my forehead and around my eyes appeared to be reduced as a result of the plumping- so I’ve been quite pleased!
If you’re looking for a fantastic anti-aging product, Somme Institute Skin Reset may be just what you need! It retails for $85 for 1.7 oz. and is available at SpaceNK, Nordstrom, Dermstore, and directly from Somme Institute.
