If so, then you may be just like me- and I’ve got just the thing for YOU! REN Skincare, a brand I really love, was kind enough to send me their new Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic. What is this stuff, you ask?
Ready Steady Glow is an effective, skin-resurfacing toner that helps exfoliate and brighten, but is gentle enough to use every day. Lactic acid (one of my fave ingredients), along with willow bark extract (a natural beta hydroxy acid), work to tone, smooth and reduce pore size, while azelaic acid precursor helps brighten and even out tone, all resulting in a naturally radiant glow (Ren Skincare, 2017).
In addition to the pH being between 3.5 and 4.5, so the acidity is perfect for effectiveness with minimal irritation, the ingredients are stellar. I’ve always had great results with lactic acid- despite being sensitized from tretinoin, and having had acne problems, I’ve found that it doesn’t cause additional aggravation, like some other ingredients.
Salicylic acid from willow bark is also fantastic, as it’s oil-soluble, so it can penetrate into the pores. So, this well-formulated combination results in a more radiant, smooth texture, minimized appearance of pores, reduced sebum and breakouts, and improved ability to hydrate (Ren Skincare, 2017).
REN Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic is housed in a convenient pump bottle. Simply flip open the cap, and press down on the top with a tissue or cotton to dispense the product, it’s that easy. Use it both day and night after cleansing, then follow with the remainder of your regimen.
The tonic has a light, fresh, natural scent that dissipates quickly. Although I didn’t experience it, you may notice a slight tingling sensation due to the ingredients. If you have any sensitivities or are in doubt, make sure to do a patch test prior to using all over your face. Keep in mind that although this is gentle, it’s powerful, so you’ll need to wear a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 every day.
While we’re on the subject of glowing, REN also sent me their Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask, which pretty much gained cult status right after it was released- it’s THAT amazing. It’s formulated with four alpha hydroxy acids- glycolic, lactic, citric, and tartaric acids, all from fruits. These AHAs lift dead skin cells, resurfacing and improving tone, texture, firmness and radiance. Additionally, the appearance of pores, sun damage, acne scars, and hyperpigmentation are reduced (Ren Skincare, 2017).
The Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask is housed in a sanitary pump bottle that keeps air and bacteria out. It also has a little piece that fits over the nozzle, which is nice, considering I have several products that tend to dry out in the nozzle, so this helps prevent that problem. The smell is citrusy, with some other scent that I can’t quite discern, but it’s very pleasant.
I will say that the consistency is a bit sticky, but not horribly so. I’ve used this several times now, and despite having sensitized skin, I haven’t had any issues other than tingling. The mask is pretty easy to rinse off, and they include a soft, smooth cloth. I’ve found, though, that I can just splash my face a few times with water, and wipe gently, without having to rub vigorously like with other types of masks.
Both the toner and the mask perform very well, and really keep my skin clear and glowing. But together, man, oh man, they really complement each other in the most stellar way!
