Pixi Gift With Purchase

Aang aang- hello!  Hope you’re all well and staying safe; and hope you’ve all had a fantastic weekend!

Did you catch our post on retinoids a while back?  (If not, you can read it here.)  Retinoids are one my fave skincare ingredients as they’re very well-researched, and scientifically-proven to address the signs of aging along with acne.  The problem is that they can be quite pricey, even for OTC products.  Pixi has come to the rescue, again!

I always get excited when a brand offers products with clinically-proven ingredients at an affordable price.  Pixi Beauty has been great about this, and does a superb job of creating great products and making them more accessible to more people.  I was going through my packages that we’ve left in a back room for while to reduce the risk of The Virus, as we’re both high risk.  I found some things in that pile that made my heart race- including this package from Pixi!

Just In: Pixi Beauty Retinol Collection

I use prescription tretinoin (the most potent retinoid), but I alternate with other products, using it only every other evening.  So, I’m always on the lookout for retinol products for those in-between nights.  I’ve been graced by Pixi with the brand’s Retinol Jasmine Cleanser, Retinol Tonic, Jasmine Oil Blend, Overnight Retinol Oil, Retinol Jasmine Lotion, and Retinol Eye Cream.  Be still my beating heart!  Read on to find out more about them…

Retinol Jasmine Cleanser

I’ve been a big fan of Pixi’s cleansers for a long time, especially the Glow Mud because it helps with my acne.  With the ingredients in the Retinol Jasmine Cleanser, in addition to anti-aging, I can also get the anti-acne benefits due to the retinol, along with some extra moisture.  It’s formulated with retinol to refine and smooth, jasmine oil to brighten and nourish, and ceramides to help lock in moisture.

The $18 cleanser comes in a convenient squeeze tube, and you get 4.57 oz, so you get a generous amount for the price. I apply this to my face, massage it around to loosen any impurities and leftover makeup, then rinse off.  If I’ve been wearing makeup or need a bit of extra exfoliation, I use a cloth to remove.

The cleanser has a barely discernible, light, fresh scent that’s not irritating- so no worries if you’re sensitive.  I wouldn’t use this as a single step cleanser if you’re wearing a lot of makeup, but it’s an excellent final cleansing step as it will leave your skin soft without feeling stripped.

Retinol Tonic

Holy moly!  This is a game-changer- the formula not only contains retinol, but it’s packed with good stuff, including some potent antioxidants, so it truly is a multi-faceted anti-aging product.  The retinol is time-released, so it keeps working on smoothing your skin and reducing fine lines even after you’ve applied it.  Peptides help boost collagen production and firm skin while jasmine flower balances and heals.

Retinol Tonic can be used just as you would your regular toner, after cleansing, but before applying your other skincare products.  You may want to use this every other day or night at first, then gradually increase as your skin becomes accustomed to it.  I have sensitized skin and haven’t had any problems, but my skin has already adjusted to retinoids.  This is also a good product to rotate with the cult favorite Pixi Glow Tonic!

Jasmine Oil Blend

You’re in for a lux experience with Pixi Jasmine Oil Blend– it has the light scent of jasmine, that immediately transports me to a calm, happy place.  It’s formulated with jasmine flower extract and evening primrose in addition to grape seed oil.  It contains antioxidants and is rich in Vitamin C as well as Omega-6 oils.

Most of the ingredients are low on the scale for being comedogenic- such as the grapeseed oil, sunflower oil, etc.  But if you suffer from acne, do a test area first as this does contain coconut oil.  Depending on how a product is formulated, I may or may not break out due to coconut oil.  Usually, if most of the ingredients aren’t highly comedogenic, and there’s not a lot of coconut oil, I don’t have any issues.  But, if you’re sensitive, just make sure to do the patch test.

Even if your skin is sensitive to the coconut oil, I’ve also used this on my legs and on my hair when I ran out of my leave-in spray.  I was quite pleased with this happy accident!

Overnight Retinol Oil

Pixi’s Overnight Retinol Oil is what I would consider the “crown jewel” of the brand’s retinol products.  It’s packed with anti-aging heavy-hitters, feels luxurious, and is priced at just $24!!  If you’re on a budget and looking for a night-time retinoid with scientically-backed active ingredients, THIS IS IT.

The formula contains both retinol and retinyl palmitate (the latter being the mildest retinoid), so you get kind of an “entourage” effect- more benefits but less irritation.  Peptides help revitalize and firm, while ceramides provide time-released moisture.  Additionally, antioxidants help protect, and jasmine helps calm.

This is a night time product, use on cleansed and toned skin, right before your night cream or moisturizer.  Rub a few drops between your hands, then press into the skin on your face.  Allow the oil to sink in a bit, then lock it in with your moisturizer.  If you’re new to retinoids or have sensitive skin, be sure to start off slowly, then gradually increase.

Retinol Eye Cream

Eye creams with retinoids can be hit or miss, as some are too potent to use during the day time, and these strong products can often result in irritation, making the eye area look even worse.  Pixi’s website says Retinol Eye Cream can be used as needed, in other words, not just at night.  When looking at the ingredient list, retinol is not at the top, and it’s not at the bottom.  So, it seems it’s got enough to actually provide benefits, but not so much that it’s irritating or can issues during the day.

In addition to retinol, the formula contains peptides to revitalize and firm, and… CAFFEINE!!!!  This is yet another cue that this product can be used in the daytime, as caffeine is excellent for depuffing the eye area and making us look like we got more sleep than we actually did!  The packaging is also great- it comes in a convenient squeeze tube with a tip that allows you to dispense just the right amount of product.  And it’s just $22!

Retinol Jasmine Lotion

Pixi Retinol Jasmine Lotion is lightweight, but very moisturizing at the same time.  The antioxidant-rich milky formula contains Vitamin A, jasmine oil and peptides to help renew, smooth, and deeply nourish the skin.  Antioxidant blackberry and ceramides, along with nourishing biotin, help ensure a healthier looking complexion.

Like the Retinol Eye Cream, this $24 lotion can be used day or night.  It’s light weight, so my oily skin doesn’t feel like it’s being “suffocated,” and I’m not left looking greasy.  I can wear this under makeup without having any issues, so that’s a huge deal for me.   I also like that this contains a plethora of actives, not just retinol, so you’re getting multiple benefits with just one product.

One of the most important things you need to do is to make sure you’re wearing a generous amount of sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30 every single day, without fail.  You should be doing this anyway, but with anti-aging products, your skin becomes more sensitized to UV rays, and you’re going to reverse all the good work you’re doing for your skin, as well as make yourself more susceptible to photodamage and cancer.  So make sure to protect yourself!
