I had never tried any Paul & Joe products before, so I was really excited about this lipstick in the shade Retro. Interestingly, Paul & Joe is a French brand by designer Sophie Mechaly, but the cosmetics are Japanese. I’ve been pretty impressed with both French and Japanese beauty products, so this lipstick seemed promising; and I was right!
I’m not even gonna lie, what first caught my eye was the adorable packaging! It comes in a vintage-inspired case- even the box is super cute. But, this lipstick isn’t just all “fluff,” the formula itself is really great.
The shade I got, Retro, is kind of a pinky nude. It’s very versatile and will go with about anything. I tend to keep this type of shade in my handbag because of that versatility- I’m too lazy to constantly switch out lipsticks. And, if I don’t switch them out, I end up with about 20 of them stashed in the side pocket- not exaggerating!
Although it’s full coverage, it’s not really drying, and it doesn’t feel as heavy as some other full coverage formulas I’ve tried. Also, it applied very easily without being splotchy. Wear time was a couple hours, but I’m always drinking something, otherwise it would have lasted a lot longer. I also think this shade would look great matte, so I may have to get one of those new mattifiers and try it out!
