Thanksgiving will be here in just FOUR DAYS. Uggggh… I’m still dreaming of the beach and flip-flops- I’ve always dreaded the holidays. Way too much stress and chaos, and never enough time do everything that needs to be done- with both work and personal life.
Amidst all the overwhelming, frantic stress, I got this Marini Holiday Exfoliator. I was both apprehensive because of the word “holiday,” and excited at the same time because the last exfoliator I tried from Jan Marini was fab (read about it here).
The Marini Holiday Exfoliator is purported to leave a silky smooth, glowing complexion through the use of both chemical and physical exofoliators. Proteolytic enzymes and glycolic acid, along with specially designed microscopic particles gently polish and exfoliate the skin, while releasing a skin protectant for a smooth finish (Jan Marini, 2014).
This exfoliant is suitable for normal, dry, oily, and acne-prone skin types. My skin is extremely sensitive right now, but I’ve had no problems with it. I should note, though, that my skin isn’t naturally sensitive- it’s only sensitized because I use tretinoin. So, if you have any doubts, make sure to do a small patch test first.
To use, cleanse your skin and apply the exfoliant to your wet face, and use gentle circular motions for about 15-30 seconds. Remove with a washcloth and tepid water, then blot dry. The exfoliant can be used two to three times weekly, in the morning or evening, followed by your regular regimen.
So, the Marini Holiday Exfoliator is housed in a jar- but that’s okay- it’s a wash-off product. Just make sure to use a spatula or tool to scoop the product out so you don’t introduce bacteria. As with the other Jan Marini products, the packaging is really sleek and looks marvelously lux sitting on my counter.
The best part, though, comes when opening- OMG, this is described as “decadent” and that’s spot on- it has the most sinful, decadent sugar cookie smell. It really smells like someone is baking cookies, and it even looks like cookie dough! So, maybe the holidays aren’t so bad, after all- this product really raised my happiness level and mood!
It’s important to note that I don’t use exfoliators with harsh particles, such as nut shells, as the jagged edges can tear the skin, resulting in inflammation and infection. The Marini Holiday Exfoliator contains dimethicone (silicone) spheres, so there’s no danger of this.
The spheres are very fine, and you can control the level of physical exfoliation- if you need more, massage more vigorously. Even if you just massage lightly, you still get the benefit of the pineapple and papaya enzymes as well as glycolic acid. However, you DEFINITELY need to wear sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 when using these types of products.
The only negative with this formula is how darn decadent and delicious it smells- it makes me want to eat sugar cookies!!!!! So, my advice is to eat breakfast before you use this…lol! Other than that, it leaves my skin super smooth, and gets rid of the tretinoin flaking. I really can’t stop touching my face after using it!
