Hey you guys! Hope all is well!
Can a deodorant really last seven days? Are you wondering if you read the title correctly? Well, guess what? I tried it out, and I’ll let you in on my experience…
As a veteran, I was first intrigued by the idea of Lavilin’s Underarm Deodorant Cream because it was originally formulated to address body odor of soldiers in military barracks. I’ve also been trying out more natural products lately, so that aspect also piqued my interest. Plus, there’s the fact that this stuff is purported to last up to seven days, even lasting through showers!
Unlike most conventional antiperspirant/deodorant products, Lavilin does not contain any aluminum. It’s also free of alcohols and parabens, and won’t clog pores. The formula utilizes plant oils and extracts to combat odor by attacking the bacteria that cause it. Since it doesn’t block pores, it doesn’t interfere with the body’s ability to remove sweat and toxins (LavilinUS, 2017).
My only worry going into this was sweating. I live in the south, and it’s very hot, as well as humid. I also sweat like a dog. And that’s when I’m not working out. But, I have idiopathic urticaria, so eliminating commercial products with chemicals is something I’m completely open to. My goal is to replace as many products as possible with natural ones to help prevent a “flare-up.”
Lavilin is housed in a cute little jar with a twist-off lid. At first, I wished it came in a push-up container, like other cream or gel formulas, so it would be more convenient to use. But, the texture is kind of like a paste, it’s pretty thick, so I’m not sure that would work. They do include a little spatula, though, to dip out the cream.
The instructions say to avoid using your current product for 48 hours, so you can start fresh with the natural product. Again, I live in the hot, humid south, and I workout every day, including long-distance runs. As much as I tried to hold out, this 48- hour wait was not working for me and I couldn’t make it that long.
I used to work in hospitals, and they often have baby wipes in the radiology department for use prior to mammograms. This is because antiperspirants, which contain aluminum, will show up on the scans. The technician confirmed that the wipes will, indeed, remove all traces. If it’s good enough to just wipe it off for a mammogram, then I was comfortable enough with my decision not to wait the full 48 hours. I couldn’t do that to myself, nor to those around me…lol!
As instructed, I did my first application at night before bed. I scooped out a small amount, and rubbed it onto the skin under my arms. Despite being a thick, pasty texture, it was easy to spread and apply. It didn’t have any odd smell, it was pretty much unscented. I woke up the next day, no smells! I applied again in the morning, and again, no smells all day long.
When you first start using Lavilin, you may need to use it more often as your skin adjusts to it. After a while, you should be able to go longer and longer between applications. I got up to three days fairly quickly, odor free, without reapplying. I am thoroughly impressed!
With the warmer weather, though, I still feel more comfortable with an antiperspirant. As Lavilin is a deodorant, not an antiperspirant, you will still sweat (that’s NOT a bad thing). When I sweat a lot, the wet sweat causes my skin to become irritated when it rubs against itself, like when I’m exercising.
It turns out this is not the right option for my underarms in the hot weather, which is sad because I really love this product, and it performs as advertised. But, I’ve also been using it on my FEET (my shoes get really stinky…lol), and it works like a DREAM. This is also something I’ll continue to use during urticaria flare-ups, and I’m going to try again in the cooler weather for every-day use under my arms.
Overall, I’m very pleased with Lavilin Underarm Deodorant Cream. It does what it’s supposed to do, and a tiny bit goes a long way, especially since one application lasts up to a week. I’m so glad I got to try it, and I’ll probably keep a jar on-hand at all times, because it’s proven to be very useful.
