Kenra Professional Summer 2017 Launches

Hey!  And we’re back with more from Kenra!!!

Yep, one of my fave hair care brands has released several new products over the summer, and I got to try them out!  I’m not sure if you know this, but in 2014, Kenra was acquired by Henkel.  Being a chemical and consumer goods company, Henkel has its own scientists.  This means that Kenra products are created with the latest ingredients and technology- the brand doesn’t have to wait around for another lab to come up with something then pay them for it.

I know, I know, you all want me to hurry up and tell you what’s new, right?  Well, first off, they added a new Platinum Snail Shampoo and Conditioner to go with the Platinum Snail CC Crème.  There’s also a Platinum Heat Block Spray, and… are you ready for this?  The first ever professional alcohol-free hairspray!

Of course, I couldn’t wait to try all these out as soon as the box arrived.  I had just washed my hair, but I didn’t want to wait.  So, I went outside in the Louisiana heat, did a run and some yard work, just so I could wash my hair again…lol!  As expected, I was pretty impressed with the results.  Keep on reading for deets on these fab products!

Kenra Platinum Snail CC Crème

This great leave-in product was released just about a year ago, and if you read our review (found here), then you know it’s pretty amazing stuff!

Kenra Platinum Snail CC Crème has myriad benefits- including boosting shine, increasing thickness, reducing breakage, hydrating hair, taming frizz and flyaways, improving elasticity, relieving scalp irritation, increasing manageability, decreasing coarseness, and providing heat protection.  Wow, right?

Since I had run out of my Snail CC Crème a while back, I was thrilled that they sent a tube so I could try it out with the new shampoo and conditioner from the same line, allowing me to get the full effect.  Oh yeah, and FYI, no snails were harmed in making these products!

Kenra Platinum Snail Anti-Aging Shampoo

Ant-aging hair care?  Yep!  Not only does hair lose pigment and turn grey as we age, but it also becomes more coarse and brittle, resulting in dullness.  Doesn’t sound very pleasant, does it?  Well, the Kenra Platinum Snail Anti-Aging Shampoo was formulated to fight all 10 signs of aging hair.  Fantastic, huh?

The shampoo is purported to restore shine, prolong agility of hair at any age as well as to provide legendary softness and movement.  The formula is enriched with Snail Essence, a highly concentrated blend of proteins, and contains no sulfates, parabens, or sodium chloride (Henkel, 2017).

The shampoo has a very fresh, light scent.  It smells luxurious, but it’s not overwhelming, so it doesn’t clash with my perfume or other products.  After a sweaty workout, I do need to shampoo my hair twice because it gets so gross.  The first time it doesn’t really lather, but the second time it lathers nicely, despite being sulfate-free.  However, it’s so much that my hair feels “stripped.”

The great thing about this shampoo is that Jerry didn’t even need to use a conditioner.  He doesn’t heat style his hair, so it’s not as vital for him as it is for me.  He really liked that it saved him a step…lol!  Both of us felt that our hair got really clean and soft without any harshness.

Kenra Platinum Snail Anti-Aging Conditioner

Like the shampoo, this youth prolonging conditioner was formulated to address all ten signs of aging hair.  It’s also enriched with Snail Essence, a highly concentrated blend of proteins, without any parabens, sulfates, or sodium chloride (Henkel, 2017).

The formula is made to restore manageability and prolong youth as well as provide moisture, resilience, and radiance to the hair (Henkel, 2017).  So, it will complement the shampoo and CC Crème very well.

I really liked this conditioner- I found it was similar to the brand’s Platinum Revive conditioner in that it didn’t make my hair feel heavy.  It was light weight enough that I didn’t have any build-up, which is great for the Louisiana heat.  But, I was still able to comb through my hair with ease, and it was left light and silky.  I followed up with the Platinum Snail CC Crème, and had shiny, gorgeous hair, even after 12 hours in the Louisiana humidity and rain!

Yet another product I’ll be able to get tons of use out of!  I try not to use heat tools every day, but often it’s unavoidable in the aforementioned Louisiana heat- I always find myself giving in and using a blow dryer or flat iron on at least part of my hair…lol!

This ultra-fine finishing spray features bee propolis, which is often used in skin and hair care products due to its ability to repair and regenerate damaged tissues (Shatalebi, Safaeian, Baradaran & Alamdarian, 2016).  So, since no bees were harmed, propolis makes a great addition, and helps with heat protection, too.

The ultra-fine mist from Kenra Platinum Heat Block Spray 22 dries on contact, provides heat protection up to 450 degrees, and allows for clean release from styling tools.  The high hold finish allows for style longevity (Henkel, 2017).

I LOVE this spray.  If you’re like me, you use hair spray prior to using a flat iron or curling wand.  The sizzling sound makes me cringe every single time.  I know this can’t possibly be good for my hair, yet it’s the only way I get the desired results.

So, the best part about the Kenra Platinum Heat Block Spray 22 is that I no longer have to worry- it’s protecting my hair from that sizzling heat, and I still get long-lasting results.  And unlike regular hair sprays that I’ve used prior to ironing, it doesn’t get all “gummy” and “glue” my hair together or to the styling tool!

Kenra Shaping Spray 21

Omg, this is so cool!  The Kenra Shaping Spray 21 is the first ever professional alcohol-free hairspray!  How cool is THAT…?!?!?  The alcohol-free formula results in maximum moisture retention, optimal working time, extra firm hold, and high shine (Henkel, 2017).

Alcohol can be so drying to the hair, and combined with heat styling, the environment, and other factors, it’s a disaster waiting to happen.  My hair is colored, and I’ve also found that the more alcohol a product contains, the faster my color fades.

Like other Kenra hairsprays, it has a sweet, fresh scent.  It dissipates quickly, though, so no worries if you don’t like fragranced products.  The mist is dispersed evenly and it’s super fine, so it won’t “disturb” your hairstyle.  It doesn’t work like a “freeze” spray because it doesn’t dry immediately, but it doesn’t take seemingly forever to dry, either- it’s at that “Goldilocks” time, just right.

I take pride in being honest in my reviews, but I really can’t think of any negatives with these five products.  If you’re accustomed to drugstore hair care, though, they may seem a bit pricey.  But, some salons will work with you on price- like my friend’s salon that carries Kenra- they’ll often discount a hair service if you purchase your products there. They’re also concentrated, so a little bit goes a long way, making them last a good while.
