My whole life, I have suffered with oily/combination skin. As a teenager, I had horrible acne, and resorted to oral and topical antibiotics- not knowing anything about good skincare. As an adult, I take great pride in my skincare, and clay masks are one of my fave ways to treat myself. So, of course I was excited about the early 2016 launch of Gaia Earthworks Bentonite Dermal Mask!
According to Gaia Earthworks, this Dermal Mask detoxifies the skin, cleans the pores, and helps tighten loose cells. It consists of 100% all-natural bentonite mined in Arizona and manufactured in San Francisco. A unique aspect is that due to the negative charge found in this specific bentonite, there is a visible magnetized dermal detoxification in the dried substance (Gaia Earthworks, n.d.).
To use the mask, mix about one ounce with purified water until you get your desired consistency. Apply to face, then wait 15 minutes, or until fully dry, and rinse away.
The Gaia Earthworks Dermal Mask was incredibly easy to use, just be careful or you could make a mess! I put a small amount in my hand, added water, mixed with my fingers, then applied to my face. A little bit goes a LONG way, so I had a good amount, and piled it on pretty liberally. Since I used so much, it took about 25 minutes or so to dry.
Removal was very easy, and no residue was left behind. I’ll go ahead and warn you, this does have a sandy, grainy texture- so, if you have really sensitive skin, be very careful when removing, you may even want to remove it in the shower. However, the graininess is GREAT if you don’t have sensitive skin, because when you’re removing it, you can kind of massage it around and give yourself an exfoliating treatment.
As far as the visible magnetized dermal detoxification, I have no idea what the company means by this or what I was supposed to be looking for. The scientist in me was really intrigued by this concept, but I still don’t know what they mean. I’m also a bit unsure about the tightening of “loose cells.” I’m hoping maybe Gaia Earthworks can elaborate on these topics a bit more on their website.
The best part was that after rinsing this mask off, my skin was clean and SO soft, even Jerry commented on it! The only negative is that since the mask comes in powder form and has to be mixed, it could get somewhat messy. But, the good thing is that you’re always getting fresh product, so my lazy self is okay with this…lol! Overall, this is a fantastic product, and a great buy!
