Being a blogger, I pride myself on reading about products and ingredients. With OZ Naturals Super Youth Eye Gel having won an Allure Best In Beauty award, I’ve been wanting to try it. When I found out the company was sending me some, I was overjoyed!
Co-Founder and certified esthetician, Angela Irish, started OZ Naturals as a result of having her own skin issues. The company embodies her passions, such as anti-aging, healthy skin, natural ingredients, high quality, and the latest technology. She desired to create more effective and healthy skincare products to help people feel good about themselves and their skin (OZ Naturals, 2015).
OZ Naturals Super Youth Eye Gel is designed to effectively treat puffiness, wrinkles, dark circles- virtually every major eye area concern. The 100% natural (75% organic) non-comedogenic formula is paraben-free and safe for all skin types. Furthermore, it’s made in the USA, in an advanced FDA-certified facility (OZ Naturals, 2015).
While the packaging is reminiscent of drugstore brand packaging, the ingredients inside are anything but. When I looked at the list, I was blown away- it’s easy to see why this is a top-rated product. Organic aloe is the number one ingredient, which is a fantastic moisturizer and is very soothing. Perhaps the second and third ingredients, Matrixyl 3000 and palmitoyl tripeptide-3, are most impressive, though.
Peptides are among the few, relatively speaking, anti-aging skincare ingredients that are actually proven to be effective. Matrixyl 3000 contains a combination of two peptides, palmitoyl oligopeptide and palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7, so basically you’re getting a double dose of good stuff. Research has shown that Matrixyl 3000 drastically increased the skin’s matrix by 2.5-3.5 times. Additionally, the compound increased Type 1 collagen synthesis and production by 258%, and increased hyaluronic acid by 179% (Laguipo, 2014).
A study on cosmeceuticals and peptides, conducted by Dr. Lijuan Zhang and Dr. Timothy Falla, showed that Matrixl 3000 helps promote the integrity of the dermal layer and reduces inflammation. Furthermore, the Dermatology Review has made note of increases in collagen Types 1, 4, 7, and 17, as well as an increase in nidogen-1 proteins, another major part of the cell membrane (Laguipo, 2014). What does all the science-y stuff mean? Well, let’s just say peptides, and particularly Matrixyl peptides, have an enormous effect on collagen production. In other words, they help us look younger!
In addition to peptides and hyaluronic acid, the ingredient list boasts a plethora of botanicals and amino acids. If you work out a lot, you know how important amino acids are in your diet. Amino acids help repair from within; they strengthen connective tissue which helps you get smoother, more elastic skin (Harvest & von Melle, 2016).
So, did the OZ Naturals Super Youth Eye Gel live up to its reputation? Well, first off, the packaging is great. It comes in a convenient opaque pump, so the ingredients are protected from light and air exposure. Just make sure not to press it down all the way, or too much will come out. The gel consistency spreads easily and is readily absorbed. Unlike some gels, it’s not sticky, and it doesn’t flake, nor does it interfere with makeup.
While I can’t attest to the anti-wrinkle claims in the allotted time, it did do a great job of moisturizing without feeling heavy. Also, the skin around my eyes has been a little crepey due to using tretinoin, and this combatted that a good bit. I stuck the gel in the fridge, and it was even more soothing, and reduced puffiness almost instantly. I know this will be a godsend during allergy season!
I know with the quality ingredients, I’ll continue to see positive changes over time. Overall, even if I wasn’t confident about the long-term results, just the immediate results were well worth trying this, especially for the price. If you want a lightweight, easily absorbed, multi-tasking eye product, OZ Naturals Super Youth Eye Gel may be just what you’re looking for!
