Lately I’ve been kind of meh on Birchbox. There hasn’t been anything bad, but nothing has really stood out. As an Ace, I’m supposed to get first dibs on boxes, and they’ve been doing a thing where you can pick a curated box, or you get to pick one item, and the rest is a surprise. The problem with surprises is that Birchbox tends to do a lot of fragrance samples, which I HATE getting.
So, in an effort to try for a more exciting box, I picked one item, the Ren Glyco Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask. I already have this and it’s awesome, but I know it will get used and I can stash it in my travel case. And… just as I thought, there was a dreaded fragrance sample. Arrrrgggghhhh…!!!
The fragrance sample, although many smell nice, is a disappointment, especially since Sephora includes fragrance samples as a bonus sixth item, instead of one of the five items. And Ipsy has been including full-size items lately, and Beauty Box 5 had three full-size items this month. It’s been a while since Birchbox has done so.
My Birchbox this month included the following:
Ren Glyco Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask– As I mentioned previously, this is an awesome product. And even though I already have it, it’s probably the item I’m happiest about getting. 🙂
Model Co Lip Enhancer Illusion Lip Liner– This is a great item, beautiful color that is pretty universal, and nice to have. It’s going into my travel case.
FHI Heat Daily Beauty for Wildlife Healing Argan Oil– This is another meh item. Don’t get me wrong, it’s awesome, as most argan oils are, and I will definitely use it up! But, with argan oil being such a “thing” lately, most people probably have a bunch sitting around, as I do…lol.
Coola Face SPF 30 Natural BB Cream– I LOVE Coola, and I have their Rose Essence CC Cream. This is pretty great, too- it’s got a bit more coverage and it’s more matte. Super happy to get this!
Catherine Malandrino Romance de Provence– The dreaded fragrance sample. Sorry, Catherine, nothing personal. The scent is nice, but fragrance samples in beauty subscriptions just suck. You can get these free pretty much anywhere, anytime, so it’s kind of a waste.
I shouldn’t gripe, because despite the fragrance sample, my goodies were pretty great, and worth well over the $10 I paid. Just the Ren mask alone would have been worth it, plus I got an awesome lip liner, argan oil, and BB cream for my travel case. Can’t beat that!
