Despite being an Eskimo, I really loathe the cold weather. It’s a good thing we don’t live in an even colder area, because we don’t have functional central heat- we rely on space heaters. So, I feel like I tend to age faster in the winter months because of a combination of the cold dry air outside, and the drying indoor heaters, as well as facial expressions from wrinkling my face out of frustration…lol!
My biggest pet peeve, besides having an asymmetrical face, is the “elevens” between my brows. I tend to have a TON of stress, so this is where I’ve started showing aging first. I used to get Botox injections regularly, but haven’t had them in several years. When we started our blog, I wanted to try out non-surgical and non-injectable anti-aging skincare ingredients to find out what was most effective. I couldn’t thoroughly and truly evaluate products with the Botox.
Another concern I have is a smile line on the left side of my face. Since I have a crooked face, when I smile, that’s also asymmetrical and goes more to the left, which has resulted in a pronounced smile line on that side. Arrrgghhh!
So, when I got the opportunity to try out the new Exuviance Age Reverse Total Correct + Sculpt Serum, I was absolutely THRILLED! As mentioned in our reviews of other Exuviance products, NeoGlucosamine lightly exfoliates and helps to stimulate cell turnover, smooth texture, and visibly reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. A stabilized form of Vitamin C, ascorbyl glucoside, helps reduce dark spots for a more even skin tone (Exuviance, 2017).
While these are stellar ingredients, I was particularly interested in the AminoFil, which was only recently, in the past few years, patented by NeoStrata. AminoFil, or acetyl tyrosinamide, has performed quite impressively in scientific research.
According to a study published by the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology, the ingredient is effective in improving the appearance of glabellar lines (those nasty “elevens”), nasolabial folds, and crow’s feet. In a double-blind, vehicle-controlled study, AminoFil is an effective non-invasive alternative to injectables (Farris, Edison, Weinkauf & Green, 2014).
While in my own opinion, nothing works as good as surgical or injectable intervention, but the study showed significant improvement in nasolabial folds, glabellar lines, crow’s feet, and under eye wrinkles, as well as reducing pinch recoil time (Farris, et al., 2014). In other words, this stuff works!
After reading this along with several other peer-reviewed articles, I was obviously super excited to try it out! I’ve had Botox before, and would gladly go under the knife at some point, so I’m not opposed to procedures and injectables, but many people are- and we started this site to write about what works and what doesn’t.
Anyway, Exuviance Age Reverse Total Correct + Sculpt Serum is housed in a super sleek silver-toned glass pump bottle. Although when you hold the bottle up to the light, it’s slightly translucent, the Vitamin C is a stable form, so I’m not really concerned about light degradation. The pump not only keeps ingredients safe from air and bacteria exposure, but it’s really convenient to use, and easy to dispense the desired amount.
The serum itself is exactly what I think of when I picture “serum.” It’s clear, thicker than water, but thinner than a lotion, and easy to spread. The formula is readily absorbed and doesn’t feel sticky. There’s also no discernible scent- so if you’re sensitive to fragrance, you’ll be very pleased!
I’ve found that the serum works well with other skincare products and makeup, with no issues. I’ve tried this with other Exuviance products, and with moisturizers from other brands, and haven’t noticed any “balling up” of product. No greasiness or heavy feeling, either. Plus, a little tiny bit goes a long way, so the bottle will last an equally long time, making this serum a good value.
While I cannot attest to the long-term results, I trust peer-reviewed clinical research. The serum also contains moisturizing ingredients, and it’s really seemed to plump up areas with fine lines- so my skin looks “fresher” even with short-term testing. I really like that I can see these immediate benefits in addition to the long-term results.
