How’s it going? Hope you’ve all had a fabulous holiday season! If you’ve been keeping up with us, you may know we spent the holidays with my family in Iowa. We had a SNAFU as I ended up forgetting my makeup…uggghh (read about it here). But, at least I remembered my skincare products- including my travel sized Elemis goodies!
I’ve recently started trying out some of the products from Elemis, and my skin is loving the brand. While some products I love more than others, I haven’t found anything yet that I dislike. With such great results, it’s no wonder I’ve found a couple HG products from them. As such, I knew Elemis would be perfect to take on our Iowa trip, since the cold, dry, winter air always seems to wreak havoc on my skin.
The travel-sized Elemis products I brought on the trip were the White Flowers Eye & Lip Makeup Remover, Dynamic Resurfacing Facial Wash, Papaya Enzyme Peel, Pro-Collagen Hydra-Gel Eye Masks, and the cult fave Pro-Collagen Marine Cream (HG!).
Since I ended up purchasing dollar store makeup, and didn’t know if my skin would react badly, it was of the utmost importance to do a super-thorough cleanse. Most products won’t cause problems just because they’re cheap, but I had a horrible reaction and got a rash once from a $1.00 bottle of foundation- so I’m pretty paranoid now! Plus, we should always be doing a thorough cleanse twice daily anyway, right…???
White Flowers Eye & Lip Makeup Remover
The White Flowers Eye & Lip Makeup Remover is a gentle bi-phase formula that removes all traces of makeup, even waterproof mascara. This was great at removing my eye makeup and lipstick- it all came off super easily.
My go-to eye makeup removers have always been the Make Up For Ever Sens’Eyes because of the thickness, and the Lancome Bi-Facil. I would have to put this on a par with those- it was just as effective at removing every trace of makeup, but it has added benefits. The Elemis contains White Peony extract to hydrate (which is a huge plus in dry winter weather), White Tea to soothe, and Vitamin B5 to condition lashes. Plus, it’s suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers.
Dynamic Resurfacing Facial Wash
The cold dry winter weather may be pretty with a light snow for the holidays, but it can make our skin look not so pretty. Thankfully, Elemis came to the rescue with their Dynamic Resurfacing Facial Wash, which is a great for keeping dullness at bay.
The Tri-Enzyme technology effectively resurfaces the skin’s upper layers by gently exfoliating dead skin cells that dull the complexion. Galactoarabinan is a polysaccharide from the Larch tree that enhances the non-abrasive exfoliation process, while Brazilian Babassu oil replenishes moisture. Antioxidant Moringa helps protect skin from environmental damage, and White Truffle Poria Cocos helps soothe and support microflora. The result is a smooth, radiant complexion.
This cleanser has a light, fresh, barely-there scent that’s not overwhelming or irritating. Since my skin is sensitized from tretinoin, I have to be really careful about using abrasive cleansers, so this one is perfect. I get smoothing exfoliation without the irritation. My skin was left thoroughly cleansed, without feeling tight or stripped of moisture.
As I mentioned above, my skin is sensitized, so it’s important that I don’t do anything to cause unnecessary irritation. But, I still like to keep it looking fresh, and get rid of dullness- which I got a double dose of from the cold Iowa weather on top of the dry airplane air.
Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel contains natural fruit enzymes, papaya and pineapple, to smooth and clarify the complexion. This rinse-off formula also contains milk protein, Vitamin E, and marine algae to moisturize, repair, and protect. The wonderful thing about this is that it’s not only effective, but it’s ideal for mature or sensitive skin!
I used this peel twice while in Iowa- once on the night of our arrival, after being in the dry airplane environment, and again two days later after spending time in the frigid snowy weather. When we arrived at home, after being on two more airplanes, I used it again. My skin remained soft and smooth the entire time.
Pro-Collagen Hydra-Gel Eye Masks
Always having had allergies and dealing with chronic sinusitis, my eye area is perpetually swollen, puffy, and irritated. Not only does this feel horrible, but the inflammation contributes to premature aging, so it’s double whammy. Arggghhhh.!!!
Thank goodness for products like Elemis Pro-Collagen Hydra-Gel Eye Masks (read our complete review here)! I usually keep a few of these stashed in the fridge to deal with puffiness from my allergies, and they’re SO soothing. But, they’re not only great for reducing puffiness, but they also hydrate extremely well, and help plump up fine lines.
Again, being in the cold weather and dry airplane, the delicate skin in my eye area was really feeling the negative effects. These are a bit pricey to do this all the time, but I actually used a set of these every night while in Iowa. Having lived in temperate, humid Louisiana for so long, my skin was no longer accustomed to the cold, so I was having some sort of rebound effect. So, since it’s not every day we’re in Iowa, I felt like I had a good enough reason to pamper myself!
This is one of my Holy Grail skincare faves (see our full review here). I absolutely never, ever want to be without this. Even Jerry has been using this magical wonder cream. We’re also starting an HG section for products such as this- it’s THAT amazing. I’ve been using it both day and night, and my skin always feels so smooth.
Being able to keep the dead skin cells away, and keep my skin moisturized without any greasiness really seemed to play a role in the cheaper makeup looking better than expected, because there were no dry, patchy areas. I mean, this stuff literally just sinks right into my skin, doesn’t leave any stickiness or greasy feeling, just fresh, dewy skin.
Overall, I’m so glad that if I had to forget something, that it was my makeup and not my skincare. Even the best makeup in the world won’t look good without a properly prepped “canvas.” Thanks to these fab products, my skin was just as soft and smooth in the cold, dry Iowa weather as it is in the temperate humidity of Louisiana.
