I can’t believe summer is coming to an end. This is the saddest time of the year for me. Despite being an Eskimo, summer is my favorite season- perhaps this is because of my love for the beach and water.
The good news is that beach wavy hair is possible year-round, even without the beach. I have long, thick, color-treated hair, and beach waves are my go-to hair style. Not only do I feel like I’m channeling the sand and surf, but this is a way I can eliminate the need to use heat tools regularly.
With almost all beach wave products, the texture effect comes from salt- that’s why our hair gets wavy at the beach- it’s from the sea salt. The problem with this is that salt can tend to be quite drying to our hair- which is why I was very pleased to try Hask’s Hawaiian Sea Salt line of texturizing products- they’re unlike many others.
This line features Hawaiian sea salt, pearl extract, coconut oil, and blue seakale. Sounds pretty beachy, huh? Just these ingredients alone were enough to make me want to wash my hair as soon as I opened the package…lol!
Anywho, the Hawaiian sea salt provides minerals and texture, pearl extract nourishes, coconut oil replenishes moisture, and blue seakale fights environmental stress. I love that Hask includes ingredients to protect hair from dryness and damage.
Despite the entire Hawaiian Sea Salt collection being sulfate-free, the shampoo actually lathered quite well, and got my hair really clean. I expected my hair to feel more “stripped” than with other shampoos due to the sea salt, but I really didn’t notice any issues.
The conditioner did a great job of making my hair feel soft without being heavy. It rinsed clean without leaving any residue or greasiness. Again, even with the salt, I didn’t notice any problems with dryness, and my hair was quite easy to comb.
The Hawaiian Sea Salt spray is a dual-phase formula, so you need to shake well prior to using. While the shampoo and conditioner are formulated to create texture, this spray is where the best waves come from.
I used the shampoo and conditioner, then used the spray on my hair after towel-drying. I scrunched my hair throughout, then let it air dry. If I want more waves, I’ll scrunch more, and continue to do so as my hair dries. If I want longer, looser waves (as pictured), I’ll scrunch just once, then I leave my hair alone as it dries.
As I mentioned previously, so many beach wave products leave my hair dried out, and also a bit frizzy, so I have to go back over it with an oil. The thing I like about the Hask Hawaiian Sea Salt collection is that the products already contain coconut oil. So, even with salt as an ingredient, my waves are actually shiny and soft!
