Hey everyone, hope you’re having a super-duper holiday season so far!
I still can’t get into the holiday spirit- I’m truly a Scrooge. But, I did get a pretty sweet gift in the mail form Colorescience! They were kind enough to send me their limited edition Sun Protection Duo Holiday Kit, which includes their Sunforgettable Brush-on Mineral Powder Sunscreen in Medium, and Lip Shine in Rose.
If you’re familiar with the skincare product brand SkinMedica, which is found in plastic surgeons’ and other doctors’ offices, Colorescience was founded by the same group of industry professionals. So, you can be assured that anything from the brand will be high-quality and effective.

The most important product in any skincare regimen should be sun protection. YES, you DO still need it in the winter! Without sun protection, you’re wasting money and time on all the other stuff, because sun damage undoes all the good you’ve done. In order to get enough sunscreen to meet the standard set forth by the American Academy of Dermatology, you need to layer your sun protection products- or you’ll be stuck piling on what seems like a gallon of lotion…lol!
The Sunforgettable Brush-on Mineral Powder Sunscreen has an SPF of 50, and provides broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection. The gradient-milled mineral powder is easy to apply as it’s housed in a portable brush container.
I’m an Eskimo with medium toned skin, and the powder worked perfectly- I even put some on Jerry (despite his protest), who is quite pale, and it worked for him, too. The powder has a satin finish, which is perfect for my needs. I’m oily, so I don’t like to look real “glow-y,” I prefer to put the glow exactly where I want it…lol!
You can easily achieve a more matte look by dusting a bit of mattifying powder over the Colorescience powder. You can also get a more glow-y look by dabbing a bit of highlighter onto your face. I really like the versatility, and I love that I can just stash this in my handbag and reapply my sunscreen throughout the day.
The Lip Shine has an SPF of 35, which is fantastic. It’s important to realize that our lips have more sensitive skin than the rest of our face, yet we often tend to forget to use sun protection on them. This Rose shade is very pretty, and it’s neutral enough to go with almost anything.
Unlike so many glosses out there, the Colorescience Lip Shine didn’t really have any stickiness at all- it went on very smoothly. It also has a tiny hint of mint- not overwhelming, but just enough for a bit of freshness. It also lasted a couple hours without needing to reapply, and it’s water-resistant up to 40 minutes.
I’m super happy with these little gems, and they’ll definitely have a place in my regular routine. There’s no such thing as too much sun protection! The Colorescience Holiday Kit is perfect for yourself, or to give as a gift. It also makes a great stocking stuffer. The best part? This limited edition kit retails for just $39!
