Hey everyone!!! Hope you’re having a fantasmic December!
Apparently, it’s snowing to the west of us, in Texas. It’s already snowed back home in Iowa, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we do NOT get any down here. Despite being an Eskimo, I loathe the cold…lol!
But… I DID get an awesome package in the mail from Buxom! They sent some of their holiday kits (read about them here), and their new Metalix Lip Glides! This new limited edition shimmery metallic lipstick comes in four shades: Ruby Luster, Violet Spark, Starry Rose, and Pink Luminatti.

The Trekkie in me loves the way Buxom describes the formula, “A bold new frontier within Buxom’s highly coveted lip repertoire, Metalix Lip Glide provide big, bold, and sexy high-tech lip color that has intergalactic shine and a futuristic foil finish,” (Buxom, 2017). Sounds pretty out-of-this-world, huh?
The formula is purported to be balmy rather than drying, creating a glossy and gilded effect that catches light with every turn. It’s also infused with jojoba and pomegranate oils for a mega-luscious pout (Buxom, 2017). I love that they’ve created a moisturizing formula, as the cold, dry weather wreaks havoc on my already often-flaky lips!
The photo above doesn’t do the swatches justice, so be sure to check out the quick video clip at the bottom. The Ruby Luster is a rich red with golden glitter, the Violet Spark is a plum violet, Starry Rose is a copper rose, and Pink Luminatti is neutral pink. All have micro-sized particles of glitter that give almost a liquid metal type effect.
So, I found that these Lip Glides, housed in sleek plastic tubes, really do glide on- they go on so smoothly without any drag. But the weird thing is, the formula doesn’t migrate or slip all over my lips once it’s on, as other balmy formulas often tend to do. Also, the color payoff for such a formula is pretty intense, so whatever Buxom did with these, they did it right.
The color is surprisingly long-lasting, although not as long-lasting as the super-mattes out there. But, they wear gradually, and leave a stain-like effect. The cool thing is that the stain left behind has shimmer! So, even when it’s worn, you have really stellar glittery lips. Although this isn’t really appropriate for work, it’s great for holidays, a night out, parties, etc. However, you could easily pull this off at work as long as you reapply when it starts to wear off.
I really like all four colors, even the pink- which is weird for me because I don’t usually wear pinks…lol. My favorite would probably be the Ruby Luster, even though it’s a warmer red, it doesn’t make my teeth look yellow, and I absolutely LOVE the golden glitter.
The one I’ll probably wear the most, though, is the Starry Rose, as it’s more of a neutral, but still really fun because of the shimmer. The pink kind of screams “snow bunny,” so it will make winter a lot more fun; and the plum is great to go with deeper colored sweaters and velvety clothing.
Overall, I’m thrilled with the Buxom Metalix Lip Glides. The only negative is that they’re limited edition, so make sure to get them NOW if you want them. Hopefully they’ll make them part of the permanent collection and add even more shades! Check ’em out at BuxomCosmetics.com.
