Birchbox: October 2015

October 15, 2015 update- Birchbox posted on social media that every box was supposed to have a mascara.  However, Birchbox messaged me and clarified that with this box selection, there was not supposed to be a mascara.  While the social media posting did make things a bit confusing, I checked my email from September 28, and there were three choices: you could get one of two featured boxes, OR a box with a mascara.  If you selected or received the “Power Pose” box, there should NOT be a mascara.

This is perhaps one of the best Birchboxes I have received in two years.  Although there were no full-size products, they were all decent deluxe sizes.  The best part of this box is that it is sponsored by Estee Lauder for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Evelyn Lauder founded the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and Estee Lauder companies help fund the organization.  Additionally, Birchbox is donating $104,000 to BCRF this month.  This is especially meaningful to me, as my cousin, Colleen M., is a breast cancer survivor.

I received the following items:

Birchbox 2

Clinique Chubby Stick in Mega Melon- I love lip crayons, and one can never have too many!  This is a great neutral shade that is very versatile.

Clinique Moisture Surge- I’m not really “big” on Clinique skincare.  In general, their products seem to be a bit outdated and overrated.  And I don’t like the whole idea that they try to pass themselves off as a “clinical” skincare company, with lab coats and all, when they’re not.  But, they have been reformulating products, such as the Dramatically Different moisturizer, so I’m looking forward to trying this one.  Maybe my opinion will change 🙂

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer– I have several of these already, so I will probably give it away.  While it’s not my favorite primer, it is a decent one, so it’s a good addition to the box- especially for those who have never used a primer.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Serum- The skin around my eyes is temporarily crepey due to Retin-A.  So, I’m really glad this was in my box; it couldn’t have come at a better time!

Darphin Stimulskin Plus Total Anti-Aging Cream- As I have never used anything from this brand, this is the product I am most curious about.  When I started approaching 40, I began hoarding anti-aging products.  Can’t wait to try this!

Pink Ribbon- This was a really nice touch- I will wear this with pride in honor of my cousin and all the other women who have been touched by breast cancer.
