Bionova: The Next Generation in Skincare

Bionova, established in 1997, is one of the most innovative skincare companies I have ever had the pleasure of encountering. They are unlike any other company in several ways- not only have they brought forth the era of nanotechnology in skincare, but their formulas are based off of substances that occur naturally in the human body (Bionova, 2010).

Michael Danielov, M.D., Ph.D., immigrated to the United States from the Soviet Union in 1990. In addition to bringing years of experience in nano science, his research in hormones and biologically active substances led to a new understanding of the mechanisms that regulate human physiology in post-aggressive conditions (Bionova, 2010). In other words, he knows how factors such as pollution, the environment, and other conditions affect our bodies and skin.

Dr. Danielov was schooled at Tbilisi State Medical Institute, receiving his M.D. in 1976, and his Ph.D. in Pathophysiology in 1985. He has authored more than 40 openly published scientific articles and one book in his field of research, “The pathogenical mechanisms of post-aggressive reactions and development in organisms.” He is also the author of a published series of articles related to his proprietary scientific concept of “Biological Information Transfer” and “Life Science Nanotechnology” in Critical Care & Catastrophe Medicine magazine (PR Newswire, 2010).

Through 1981 to 1989, Dr. Danielov and a team of scientists developed four generations of automatic scintillation counters for beta and gamma radiation. As a result, in 1984, they were nominated for the “State Prize,” the highest award for science and technology in the USSR. As a former Deputy Coroner, perhaps the research that excites me the most, though, is Dr. Danielov’s study in Georgia at the Institute of Experimental Morphology Academy of Science. It is here that he researched the pathogenical mechanisms of thanatogeneses (mechanisms of death) of post-aggressive reactions of living organisms (PR Newswire, 2010). (What does this mean to the layperson in the skincare world? It means he knows a heckuva lot about aging skin and what causes it!)

It was this research that led to a sophisticated new nanotechnology platform, changing our understanding of human adaptation mechanisms. Basically, everything needed by the human body already exists within it, and our cells are programmed to fix themselves (Bionova, 2010).

Based on this research, Dr. Danielov and his team determined that the best approach to 21st century medicine would be to use substances that naturally exist in the human body, rather than introducing foreign molecules. Soon, they developed several proprietary nanotechnologies to serve as a platform for creating multiple products for the purpose of enhancing the self-healing process with specific curative effects. Bionova’s Nano Skin Tech is the first commercial implementation of nanotechnology in the skincare industry (Bionova, 2010).

No two people are the same, so Bionova utilizes customized formulas based on many different factors. Some of their lines are based on age and sex, while their N1 Custom line is fully-customized, with no two people having the same ingredients. The usage of nano- and pico- sized particles and quantities not only ensures better results, but causes no side effects (Bionova, 2010).

Having a love for science, this is one of the lines I am most excited, and honored, to try. My initial impression of the products is coming soon, so check back often!

Bionova products are available at Barney’s, Dermstore, and Bionova’s own website.
