Huge Congrats to Caltech & MIT!

My inner nerd has been stupendously excited and full of joy over the discovery of gravitational waves!

According to the press release, scientists discovered gravitational waves, or ripples in spacetime.  This confirms a huge part of Einstein’s general theory of relativity.  The gravitational waves, which have been predicted but never before observed, occurred when two black holes collided (LIGO, 2016).

Even as a child, I have always been fascinated with space, and particularly space travel.  When I hear “gravitational wave” or “ripple,” my mind immediately starts thinking of warp travel.  And of course, time travel.  While it’s unlikely weak gravitational waves could allow for warp travel or time travel, every step in science gets us closer to bigger and better things.

Maybe one day we’ll make enough leaps to join the Federation.  Until then, LLAP…
